Back Pain in Pregnancy

Back pain is very common during pregnancy. The curvature of your spine and your center of gravity shift as you baby and belly grow bigger. These changes put stress on your back leading to pain and discomfort. Using good postore and keeping to a sensible weight gain can help prevent backache.

What can I do to relieve back pain?

1. Eat a well balanced diet. Excessive weight gain only adds to the pressure and strain on your back muscles. Following a healthy diet will help to keep your weight on track.

4. Wear sensible shoes. Now not the time to be wearing high heels or or platform shoes. Instead, look for a shoe that offers comfort and support.

5. Try a back support brace or girdle. Talk to your doctor about prescribing one or wear to purchase one locally.

6. Heat and massage may help your achey back. Many spas offer specifi prenatal massage. If you are experiencing backache, now would be a great time to treat yourself to a prenatal massage.

7. Mild analgesics may be helpful and appropriate. Talk to your doctor before taking any medication.

You should let your doctor know if you are experiencing back pain. If back pain is severe or you are feeling numbness, call your doctor promptly. Back pain can be a signal of premature labor.
