Eight Tips to Relieve Morning Sickness

Initially, morning sickness may provide comfort to the newly pregnant woman because it reaffirms that she is indeed pregnant. Also it has been shown that pregnancies with morning sickness have higher success rates. However, after a few bouts of nausea, this comfort is quickly replaced with a desire for relief. If you are experiencing morning sickness, there are some things you can try to get rid of morning sickness.

  1. Dry crackers or toast
    Eating dry crackers or toast before getting out of bed can sometimes help with morning sickness.
  2. Gingerale
    This has been used for years for stomach bugs and upset stomach. It may help with morning sickness too! Ginger root has also been shown to help with stomach discomforts.
  3. Avoid spicy or fatty foods
    Spicy foods can irritate the stomach, aggravating morning sickness. It is best to avoid spicy or fatty foods if possible.
  4. Eat small frequent meals
    Eating small frequent meals and avoiding an empty stomach should help ease morning sickness.
  5. Keep well hydrated
    Sip water throughout the day. Guzzling is not necessary and may cause more upset stomach. If morning sickness is causing vomiting, you could easily become dehydrated. Drinking water may not actually help with morning sickness, but it can help keep complications from it at bay.
  6. Acupressure
    Studies have shown acupressure may relieve morning sickness. Consult with an an acupressurist for correct pressure points or to schedule a session.
  7. Vitamin B6
    Vitamin B6 may be beneficial. Consult your doctor for appropriate amounts during pregnancy.
  8. Medication
    If morning sickness is severe, talk to your doctor. Sometimes medication and even hospitalization is necessary.
