  • In 2003, the US had 7,663 triplets or higher order multiples. This is the highest reported number of multiple births on record.

Identical Twins

  • About 1 in 250 births are identical twins.
  • If your mom or maternal grandmother was a fraternal twin or had fraternal twins, this may increase your chances of having twins. Identical twins are not believed to be hereditary.
