Personalized
Reindeer
Ages 2 to 8
Skill level: Easy
Materials needed: Yellow construction paper, brown
construction paper, pencil, scissors, glue, black marker,
small red pom-poms
With a pencil, trace the outline of each of your child’s
hands on the yellow construction paper. Cut out the
hand shapes. Next trace the outline of your child’s
shoe on the brown construction paper and cut out that
shape. Using the brown shoe-shape for the reindeer head,
position the yellow hands behind the top of the shoe-shape
to serve as antlers. Dot a small amount of glue at the
bottom of each antler (at the palm of the hand) and
attach the antlers to the head. Use the black marker
to draw eyes. Glue the red pom-pom to the very bottom
of the reindeer head (the heel) for the nose.
Indoor Snow Flurries
Ages 4 to 12
Skill level: Easy to Medium
Materials needed: Plain white paper, scissors, silver
elastic or white string, tape
Using a variety of circle patterns (try oatmeal box
tops or small round plastic containers), trace circles
onto the white paper. Cut out the circles. Fold the
circles in half, then in half again, then in half again
until you have a small triangle-shaped piece. Cut small
snips, slits, and holes in the triangle (being careful
not to cut all of the way across all of the folds).
Unfold the paper to reveal a snowflake. Tie a length
of elastic or string to the snowflake. Repeat until
you have a large number of snowflakes. Then tape each
string to the ceiling so that the snowflakes look like
they are falling down from above.
Candy Cane Vase
Ages 4 to 10
Skill level: Easy to Medium
Materials needed: Wide cylindrical glass vase –
should be approximately the height of the straight side
of a candy cane, approximately 20-30 candy canes, large
wide rubber band, glue, festive wire ribbon.
Place the rubber band around the vase at about the
mid-point. Holding the candy canes upright, slide each
one under the rubber band so that it stands up straight
with the hook pointing outward. Repeat until the entire
outside of the vase is covered with candy canes. Dot
a few small dots of glue on the rubber band. Tie the
ribbon around the vase so that it covers the rubber
band. Fill the vase with roses, holly, evergreens, or
some other red and green flower combination.
Gingerbread Man Placecards
Ages 4 to 10
Skill level: Easy to Medium
Materials needed: Plain brown paper bag or other sturdy
brown paper, gingerbread man cookie cutter (optional),
pencil, scissors, markers, construction paper, ric-rack,
googly eyes, or any other decorating material.
Cut apart the paper bag so that you have a large, flat
amount of paper to work with. Cut long strips of paper
that are slightly wider than your gingerbread man cookie
cutter, and slightly taller than twice the height. Fold
the paper in half from top to bottom. Trace the cookie
cutter (or draw a gingerbread man shape) on the paper,
with the top of the head touching the fold. Cut out
the gingerbread man outline so that you have two gingerbread
men connected at the top of the head. They should stand
up; fold their feet slightly at the bottom to create
a more sturdy base if they need help standing. Decorate
the two outer sides as a gingerbread man or woman, depending
on who will sit at each place, using markers or construction
paper or other garnishes. Write each person’s
name across the front of the gingerbread man body.
