A couple of days ago, I brought my son into the bathroom with me–yes, I make him suffer ha, ha, it’s the only way I can make sure he doesn’t get into something he’s not supposed to get into–and he discovered the door stopper. We have the springy ones that make the funny “boing” noise when you pull on it sideways and let go. I recall playing with them when I was a kid and now know just how annoying it must have been for my parents to listen to the never ending “boing” sounds. Anyhow, so my son discovered it and the first two times he pulled on it and let go, he was fine and seemed intrigued in his new toy. However, as the “boing” started after he pulled it for the third time, he started to bawl. The noise was scaring him so what does he do? He keeps pulling it! Which naturally resulted in more screaming and crying. Clearly he didn’t quite grasp the fact that he was causing his fear to escalate and I found myself laughing at him. I couldn’t help myself. There I was unable to get to him to move him away from this thing that kept scaring the crap out of him–and we all know he would have been back to it in less than a second–and he’s screaming louder and louder. Ah! The mind of a 9 month old! Poor kid.
Another thing he seems to be fascinated with is my belly button. He’ll sit on my lap and pull my shirt up; he’ll squeal with delight or laugh and then pull my shirt back down. He’s also licked my belly button and tried to suck it on a couple of occasions. Eww. Good thing I keep it lint-free.
My child is strange, but that’s OK with me.

Ha! Jonah just discovered the door stopper this week too. We have several of them, and he has managed to locate and hone in on them all. He actually broke one off yesterday! Now I’m a little scared to let him play with them.
