Cybex 2.GO Review

babywearingmonthThis post is part of “All About Babywearing” Month.

I attended ABC Kids Expo this year, and one of the many new and exciting carriers I got to see was the Cybex 2.GO.  It is a cross between a Baby Bjorn and a Soft Structure Carrier (SSC).  I was sent the Cybex 2.GO to try out, and will be sending it back to Regal Lager.
The CYBEX 2.GO baby carrier satisfies close physical contact needed for baby. The ergonomic and intuitive design makes it comfortable for the parent and baby.
·         The 2.GO was developed in cooperation with orthopedist. The recommend position for baby is spread squat, which is expressed through the Comfort Fit Seat ™ . The Comfort  Fit Seat™ can be individually adjusted to allow baby to sit in a more comfortable position
·          The head support can be easily adjusted with the zipper or folded down to allow the baby to face forward.
·         There are multiple adjustments both with the width and the height of the carrier
·         There are five carrying positions including: front facing inward and forward, hip position, mobility seat and back position.
·         Machine Washable and color options are: Chili, Purple, Slate, and Indigo

cybex1There are many exciting and innovative features on the 2.GO.  My favorite would be the swiveling chest/back buckle.  One of the great things about using a Buckling carrier is the ease of putting it on and off yourself.  The only difficult thing can be buckling the middle strap on the back.  And unbuckling always seems to be more difficult.  Because the buckle swivels and can be pulled upward for an easier reach, it makes it soooo much easier!

The Cybex is a chameleon.  It can be used for newborns with the thoughtful addition of a button system for the leg openings to keep tiny legs secure.  It also has a high headrest for babies without neck control.  The high headrest can also be used for sleeping babies to keep their little heads from bobbing around.

2009-09-28 19-42-46 - DSC_5460The high headrest portion can be folded over for a “mobitlity” position once babies reach 6 months and older.  This is how we tested the carrier since my son is 11 months.  We folded it to the inside and buckled it.  You can see in the picture that this let the carrier come to his chest, giving his arms room to move about.  We liked this carrier for front facing a great deal.  While I know front facing is not a recommended carrying position, sometimes babies just enjoy it!!!  I would not let me son front face for hours like I do in the tummy to tummy position, but if I am wearing him downstairs to do laundry or when he is fussy and I need to clean, I have grabbed the Cybex and put him in facing front.  He wiggles his arms around and kicks!  He enjoys this view so much!

The Cybex 2.GO can fit small framed women and also men.  The carrier has a gender neutral look to it, and I think husbands wouldn’t mind wearing their little ones in this modern and sleek carrier.  The straps are very long, but there are built in loops that help keep them out of the way when they are tightened.  Unfortunately, being on the tightest setting possible I had a lot of extra straps.  I folded them over twice and looped them back through the loops to keep them from hanging down.

A bib comes with the carrier that you can hook on.  This is good for babies who spit up frequently.  Even though the Cybex is Machine Washable, having to only wash a small piece of fabric is much easier.

Pros:

  • Swivel Buckle
  • Strap loops
  • Machine Washable
  • Bib
  • Gender Neutral
  • Fits small females to large males
  • Modern colors
  • Multiple carry positions

Cons:

  • Excess straps when tightened to smallest setting
  • Headrest is bulky when folded over
  • Zippered seat looks strange when the baby is not very heavy and doesn’t spread it out enough.  This is dependent on color combo.
  • Has a lot of adjustments and will take some time to learn all of them.
  • Manual does not explain every buckle and adjustment.
  • Could have wider shoulder straps for added comfort.

The carrier is comfortable to wear around.  I love that it has a front facing mode but that it can be used in so many other positions.  I would say get this carrier if you want one carrier for it all, would like your husband to be able to wear it, want something easy to clean and use, and like modern, clean design.

Reasons you might consider another carrier: you have a very small frame and don’t want excess straps, you don’t want a carrier with so many functions.  Multiple functioning carriers have some extra bulk because of the many buckles and snaps to carry out those functions.

To purchase this carrier you can pre-order it through Regal Lager.  It has a nice price point at 99.95, less than many Baby Bjorns with more functions!
