Any Candy I Received Was Out of Pity

There exists in my baby book a photo of me at approximately 16 months of age wearing a bonnet, a long, drab, “Little House on The Prairie” dress and a morose expression.  When I was old enough to process the details of this photo I was momentarily confused, as it appeared there was a good chance my family had once been Amish!  I questioned my mother about this strange photo in hopes that she would share with me a courageous tale of her and my father’s hardscrabble existence and subsequent escape from their candle-lit sequestration on a Pennsylvania farm.

“What are you talking about?” my mom replied.  “That was your first Halloween costume.”

In taking a second look, I’m thinking that perhaps my mom was going for “Flying Nun”.
