Elementary school postal system

The elementary school that my children attend has an in-house postal system.

The idea is that the students will improve their literacy by writing and exchanging postcards with other students, teachers, and faculty within the school.

My daughter (age 7) and her vast social posse are responsible for approximately ¾ of the postcards currently streaming through the network.  Typically the nature of these communications is to A) arrange playdates or B) enthuse, “I lik yur sweter.  You look cut today!”  As a teacher and a parent, I agree that any exercise that encourages kids to read and/or write has merit, and I was totally on board with this activity.  Until today.

My daughter came home today with backpack bulging.  Inside were a fistful of postcards from her adoring fans.  Included in the aforementioned requests for social engagements was this little gem:

The primitive precursor to “sexting”, I’m sure.

For those of you who do not read or write “7-year-old”, allow me to translate.

“Dear Eliza:

Your friend Mallory is freaking me out. She is hugging me. Please stop her. From Zach”

Hey, Zach? I’m freaking out too.
