How It Feels to be Katie Couric.

The other day I serendipitously followed a breadcrumb trail of links until I stumbled upon Neil Kramer’s blog at “Citizen of the Month”. There, I discovered that he was about to launch his 2nd “Great Interview Experiment”.

Read about it here.  I was super-intrigued but I hesitated to join in for fear that I’d end up feeling like Molly Ringwald at the school dance in “Sixteen Candles”. But, since humiliation doesn’t bother me (I lost my sense of pride after the 3rd kid), I submitted my name and pressed “SEND.”

Well, fate really smiled on me that day because when Neil sent me the name of my interview victim subject, I discovered I’d been paired up with Marcy, writer of the deliciously fantastic blog, “The Glamorous Life Association”.

Marcy is a truly foxy mama! She is a Jane-of-all-trades, comedienne, and mother of two boys who appear to be following in her hysterically witty footsteps. Her blog is a mash-up of motherhood, pop culture musings, photography, and cringe-worthy images from her childhood.

Marcy was a joy to interview. She was candid and real, and didn’t even make me filter my questions through her publicist (although I was advised not to ask any questions about her marriage to Nick Lachey). I expect the networks to come knocking shortly, now that the world is aware of my mad interview skillz.

So…without further ado….MEET MARCY! (her answers are in bold)

1) Girl, you are the Kelly Ripa of the blogosphere. You have worked in apparel, had an interior design business, taken up photography, had two kids, been a SAHM mom, a writer, and moved cross country a couple of times to boot! Is there anything you haven’t done that you really want to do?

Oh yes. Having career ADD, I pretty much have a new desire or goal everyweek. But I have narrowed it down to public speaking at the moment. I think it combines the best of my stand up comedy, acting and interpretive dance background. So there is that…and a talk show host. But that will come after I get my first sitcom pilot. Don’t you think?

2) If the world finally ran out of Kardashians and decided to make YOU famous….what would you like to be famous for?

I admit it. I am a fame-chaser. From birth I have been seeking excellence in everything in the hopes that it would lead me to the path of fame. Alas, I am still trying to get there. I think I would like to be famous for being funny. Yes. Funny. Let’s go with that…unless you can be famous for doing a great laundry. Cuz I am pretty good at that too. Of course I practice every day.

3) The world is ending (again!). God comes to you and tells you to build an ark. In addition to all the animals he says you can save 5 other people/places/things from today’s society. What would they be and why?

Wow. You are really good at this interview thing. Can you pass me that glass of water so I can pause dramatically while I think of an answer?….thanks….hmmm, let’s see…you do realize no matter what I say it is going to piss someone off right? Actually did my publicist approve of this question?….oh…well MY KIDS, so that is 2 and then I guess the Housewife Trifecta; Microwave, Coffee Pot and Washing machine. I mean I will still have housework in the new world right?

4) You are a mom to two adorable boys (who obviously inherited your funny gene).

What is your advice to other mothers for living “The Glamorous Life”?

Cut yourself some slack. Sure this whole motherhood thing didn’t turn out like the brochure, but it is what it is. And even on the worst of days…it is still a pretty magical thing to think WE MADE HUMANS and we get to RAISE THEM. I mean we are like superheros with super powers! “Oh you have xray vision? Oh yeah? I MAKE HUMANS! And even MILK. So there!” So that advice and….Oh! the advice that margarita mix is the exact same color as the green Gatorade should you want to ‘re-fill’ before the kids soccer games in case you get ‘parched’ while avoiding the bitchy Momfia and the picky team mom.

5) You find yourself suddenly single. Write the singles ad you’d publish to find your next true love.

You are trying to get me divorced aren’t you? Um okay here goes “Used-to-be-hottie seeking a stably employeed male who has mastered his sock thorwing aim to a laundry basket. Cooking, cleaning skills a plus. Should come prepared to have daily conversations all about me/my mom/blogging. Must love cats and find mood swings/weight swings/and goal swings charming.”

6) You have posted some hilariously “vintage” photos of yourself – the kind that most people pray remain hidden in their parents’ basement. What do remember most about your younger self?

Public humilation is my extreme sport…Well, I remember everything. I have a freaky clear memory of my childhood. I was the girl with the perfect clothes, perfect hair and perfect grades and no one to play with at recess. I was the teacher’s pet and my parents dream. I was known as ‘the happy one” and I cried many nights wishing my beloved cat could come to life and be my best friend. I was a walking contridiction. And I was very complicated….not much has changed. The downside to over acheivement? It annoys people.

7) It’s karaoke night. You are singing…….

Closer to Fine (Indigo Girls) or Born to Fly (Sara Evans)…or both. Put enough cocktails in me and I would just stay up there and sing all night.

8) You have not been silent about your passionate dislike for all things Ed Hardy(to which I say, “AMEN!”). Which leads me to ask, how do you solve a problem like Jon Gosselin?

I wish I knew. Although I invision a small island somewhere that has ******* re-hab. Jon Gosselin, Kanye, the balloon boy dad and maybe a few members of the FTC could go there. That would be awesome.

9) What is the saddest thing you can think of?

Right now? I would say my answer to #6. I am kinda a downer for a humorist huh? There is comedy in that…I just know it.

10) And lastly, describe your life in three words.

Work in progress.

But then again?

The Glamorous Life

Says it all too…
