I am due for an update - IVF on then off again

I have been meaning to update my blog but have been so tired.  Last Wednesday Kelly had the semen analysis done.  We both went in and got all the blood work we had to do to get started and signed all the paperwork.  Then on Thursday I needed one more signature (for guardianship of our embryos) so I went in and signed that.  Well that day my period decided to show up unexpectedly.  I was only 9 days past ovulation so I wasn’t expecting her.  So they schedule me for an ultrasound for Friday and I had more blood work on Friday.

My period has been unusually heavy.  The only time I have ever experienced anything like this was after labor so I was kind of freaked out by this to begin with.  On Friday I had the ultrasound and that didn’t go well at all.  They saw something on the ultrasound and they weren’t certain what it was but they were concerned that it was a molar pregnancy.  I was really upset on Friday because if it was a molar it was going to force us to put the baby making on hold for six months to a year.  But, he also said that what he was seeing could just be clots in my uterus.  So I got blood work done and everything is fine.  I am not pregnant and it isn’t a molar.

The nurse says go ahead and start the injections on Saturday.  I was very proud.  I did the injections all by myself and they didn’t even hurt.  My period has been heavy this weekend but I haven’t passed anymore clots.

I went in for another ultrasound today and blood work.  Well, guess what?  Clots are still there.  We talked about it and the doctor doesn’t want me to do the IVF this cycle because he is concerned that my body won’t respond well to the meds because of whatever is going on with my body at the moment.  He prescribed birth control pills for me to take twice a day for 3 days and then once a day for 15 days.  Then hopefully my body will clean itself out and we can start.

We are still trying to get this done before Christmas but I guess it all depends on if my body cooperates.  I am really disappointed but I wasn’t totally shocked.  I was really upset that I wasted two injections.  IVF medication is really expensive so I wish he had just started me on the birth control in the first place.  But, I would rather be out the money than do this cycle and have it fail.

The good news is I got to do two practice runs on the injections and have it mastered now.  The first injection I lost a little fluid because I didn’t hold the needled in long enough so the next time I do this I will have it down pat.

I will be chilling for a few weeks but I will keep you all posted if anything develops.
