Merry Christmas 2009!

Saturday, December 26th, 2009 by by

Despite staying up until 11 last night, Eric was up at 5am this morning… Oof. Fortunately, he crawled into bed with us and slept another hour or so before deciding he wanted to be up for the day. It took a while, however, before before the rest of the house was up. A little sleeping in later, it was present time!

We started with the stockings, of course. Danny snatched his (more…)

To Those On The "Nice" List, We Salute You

Thursday, December 24th, 2009 by by

It’s Christmas Eve and all through our house, many creatures are stirring – including the mice (Did I mention we found a few in our house the other day?   I know!  Ick.   Clearly they were amateurs though, because they totally overlooked the crumb-laden paradise that is my kitchen, and chose to remain among the slim-pickins’ of the crawl space where they were easily taken down by my husband’s pedestrian peanut butter traps!)

The kids have been abuzz with excitement all day.  I tried to assuage some of their rampant holiday energy by taking them to “Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 – The Squeakquel.”  It could have been the absence of a compelling plot, or it could have been the mindless dialogue –or…it could have been the fact that I had to wrangle Kellan back into his seat about a billion times once his gummy bears and attention span both ran out, but that movie definitely wore me out.    The kids however?  Not so much.  They skipped out of the theater (more…)

“Oh, I’m Sorry, I didn’t realize you were breastfeeding…”

How often do you hear that sentence?  In the past month, I have heard it once and experienced it wordlessly one other time.

While flying back from Charlotte NC I was alone with my son.  I don’t even want to count how many times we have flown by ourselves.  The only way I would consider it is if I am babywearing (godsend for flying, let me tell you) and nursing (godsend for inside of the airplane).  Since I am still able to do both it was no biggie.

On the flight from Charlotte to JFK I sat next to a large, but nice and friendly man who was more than happy to make conversation with Fletcher and I.  Once the plane took flight I knew what I needed to do to make everyone’s experience positive.   (more…)

Racing Cars – The Perfect OT Toy?

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009 by by

I don’t remember where we found it, probably because John found it when he was off on his own. “It,” however, is a small, loud racing car toy with 3 motorized ramps for tiny little race cars to ride up and then go zipping around a track. Eric has loved it pretty much since he first laid eyes on it. With the cars being so small and easy to lose, we keep it up on a shelf, and he often comes over and asks for “the cars up on the shelf” to play with.

Danny’s learned the sound of those cars, man, and he loves them too. Saturday he was thrilled just to watch, giving huge belly laughs as the 3 tiny cars sped around and around. Sunday, he wanted (more…)

How to cure an almost 4 year old’s temper tantrum

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009 by by

So, Ryan is sick and pitiful, thus making it impossible for him to act like a human boy. For one thing, I can’t call him Ryan, but only “sweet angel baby” until told otherwise. His temper (not fever) is currently off the charts.

We were painting ornaments to give people the other night when Ryan starts screaming at his friend for accidentally bumping his paint tray. No mess was made and the tray barely moved, but Ryan felt this still required screaming until his friend was crying, I was yelling, and he was almost purple in the face. We calmed everything down and (more…)

Mystery package from dad

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009 by by

The only problem with international Christmas presents is that the sender has to identify the contents of the package. My Dad identified this one as ‘baking aid’.

Made with extra love on his own lathe, no doubt.

Snow Day

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009 by by

We finally – finally!! – got some snow this weekend. I have been craving snow for a while; really, for most of December. It is so hard, so foreign, for me to get into the Christmas spirit without even the slightest bit of white on the ground! All over the continent, people have been getting 2, 6, 12 inches of snow, and here we have had nothing.

Well, now we got about an inch, and Eric and I will take what we can get! With Danny’s nose being all runny and him acting a little sick, I decided to let him stay in the warmth for this trip; even Eric and I didn’t stay out for too long. He is obsessed with snow though, and for the first day kept announcing that because it’s snowy outside, it must be Christmas, and we can open presents. (more…)
