Snow Day

We finally – finally!! – got some snow this weekend. I have been craving snow for a while; really, for most of December. It is so hard, so foreign, for me to get into the Christmas spirit without even the slightest bit of white on the ground! All over the continent, people have been getting 2, 6, 12 inches of snow, and here we have had nothing.

Well, now we got about an inch, and Eric and I will take what we can get! With Danny’s nose being all runny and him acting a little sick, I decided to let him stay in the warmth for this trip; even Eric and I didn’t stay out for too long. He is obsessed with snow though, and for the first day kept announcing that because it’s snowy outside, it must be Christmas, and we can open presents.

With his gloves forgotten at daycare, we skipped playing snowballs and making snowmen, which are two things Eric has also been talking about non-stop. All weekend, when we weren’t outside, he was saying how he wanted to “go outside and play snowball!” and he would launch his arm like a catapult throwing a snowball as high as he could. I fear the day we actually do get the snowballs made.

Lucky for us, the bunnies have been out in the snow too! In the front yard, we got to see all sorts of bunny tracks criss-crossing in the snow. We followed them like detectives to see where they went and learned that our bunnies like to hide in the hedges between our yard and the neighbors. When we made it to the back yard, we actually saw one of the bunnies nibbling some of the grass peeking through the snow, and when he heard us coming he raced off to the neighbor’s yard. Eric thought it was awesome, but was quite disappointed we “missed him” and didn’t get to catch the bunny.

(I, for one, am quite thankful we didn’t catch him. I’m sure the bunny is too.)

Of course, then Eric had to make his own tracks too. He decided mine were too big and that only he should make tracks, which was fine by me – by that point, I was hiding at the edge of the house, staying out of the wind.

I love snow, but I’m not a huge fan of cold.

It looks like the snow is melting today, but I am hoping strongly for a white Christmas!!
