The Futility of Winter

“Trying to clean while your children are growing is like shoveling the walk while it’s still snowing:”

Author unknown

I read that quote many years ago when I first became a parent, and I don’t think truer words have ever been spoken. The parallels of this quote ring especially true here in the Midwest today, where the snowing has begun in earnest.

With the arrival of winter comes the inevitable winter sequestration. Around here, road salting is negligible, parking lot shoveling is nonexistent, and the weather that accompanies our snow is typically blustery and punishingly cold. If you add to that equation the bundling up and lugging around of two members of the “under –three” sect, you can understand why I find staying home preferable. But not by much.
Outside…flurries with a chance of increased severity overnight.

Inside? Full winter storm warning with a blizzard on the horizon.

This is Baby Larissa’s contribution. That baby has caught on quickly to the ways of her siblings.
And she can’t even crawl yet! I couldn’t bear to post pictures of Kellan’s playroom.
A few more snow days and I really will need a shovel in here.

I have done the calculations. If cleaning while raising your kids is indeed fruitless, I should be making my appearance on “Hoarders” in September of 2027…when I anticipate Larissa leaving for college.
