Yes, that is right! I have set a goal for myself, and that is to learn how to speak French! I know basic French so I figured hey, why not. This is something I have always wanted to do and I figured now is a better time than any to start getting serious.
My huband and I wanted to try out Rosetta Stone, but 1) it is expensive ($700 for all 5 learning levels, $299 for just the first level!) and 2) I want to learn French and he wants to learn Italian. So, we have joined a website called LiveMocha. It has free lessons and it basically shows you pictures and teaches you phrases and vocabulary. It isn’t the best of the best when it comes to learning structure but the cool thing about it is that you can chat with people from all over the world, who are native in the language you are learning or who are also learning the same languages as you. Your written and speaking assignments are graded by people who actually have that language as their native language, and you give back correcting other people’s assignments in YOUR native language. Pretty cool!
Another reason I want to learn a foreign language so bad is because I would love to pass that on to my daughters. Dakota has already listened to me practicing my french and she will repeat me, almost perfectly! If I could use it more around her then we can learn together, and I can almost guarentee she will grasp it alot faster than I will! We already have used American Sign Language around the house since I was, once apon a time, fluent in it. I don’t use it half as much as I used to and should really get back into doing that also.
I am so very excited about the goal I have set for myself, to one day be able to carry on a fluent conversation with someone in French. I have concentrated most of my time on taking care of my kids, losing weight, and making money, that it is time to expand my mind a bit!

That is great! Please let me know what you think of Rosetta Stone. I know a lot of homeschooling families use it for their children’s foreign language program.
