With my first son, I saw 3 different LC's, so I got to experience one wonderful one, one good one and one terrible one. Looking back now, I'm glad that I was able to get an idea of the full spectrum of LC's. I think too often, people base their judgments on one experience with LC's; people will either tell you they're all great or they're all terrible, depending on their experiences. My advice to new moms: If you have a bad experience with one, try to find another. Think of it this way, if you got 1 bad haircut, would you write off ALL stylists?
With much support from my LC, lots of pumping and 5 months with a nipple shield, my oldest son nursed well into toddlerhood. With help from the same wonderful LC that I saw with my older son, I was able to nurse my 2nd son with much less trepidation. In a few days we'll celebrate his birthday and one year of breastfeeding.
