Lookie lookie, my homeschool group is in the paper!

I am so darn excited. This year I started a homeschool group for my area. I really didn’t want to start a group but I wasn’t having a lot of luck finding a support system for homeschoolers in my area. There are a few other groups in my area but they are not that close to me and they are not an all inclusive group. I wanted to have a group for all types of homeschoolers with different backgrounds and faiths. When I started the group there were only a few people that came to the meetings. Actually, there were many weeks where it was just me and one other member that showed up. We are up to about 20 families as part of the group now. Not everyone comes to every meeting or every activity but it is really taking off. I think of my homeschool group in the same way I think of JM. When we first started JM there were only a handful of members but what I learned from that experience was that if you keep being friendly and stick with it, your membership will grow.

One of our members writes a column (and used to be the editor at one of our local papers) so she wrote up a story for us and guess what we are in the paper! Check it out. I am so very excited and hope that this will help us attract some more members.
Homeschoolers delight in groundhog festivities

Sarah led the group last week and did a great job teaching everyone about Groundhog Day.  The kids made some crafts, played whack-a-mole, and drew shadow figures.  Next meet up I am leading and we are going to do something on bugs and insects.  I am hoping that I will do as well as Sarah did with the Groundhog Day meet up.

I am having a lot of fun with our group and am really excited that I am finally starting to have a really good support group for me and my kids.

That is so very neat! It has to be rewarding every little thing that helps move it foward. I’m sure you put just as much into as you do in JM which means its bound to be a huge success!

  2. I sure hope so. I have to admit I was getting a little discouraged at first but I kept thinking back on the days when JM was so small and that kind of helped me to stick with it. I love my group so far.
