If The Shoe Fits

Ever since I stepped foot on the road to maternity I swore that I would make the journey wearing cute shoes.  Unlike those stubborn hips and uncooperative thighs and that willful belly, my feet have been my faithful servants.  Aside from an unfortunate shower shoe dependency back in ‘98 (In my defense I was 9 months pregnant, it was the hottest August on record, and I was carrying a 9lb, 8oz fetus) I have managed to steer clear of sensible shoes.

My kind husband merely sighs as he gathers up my piles of shoes from around the house because he knows that shoes are his pals too.  I can’t even begin to describe the relief that spreads across his face when I get dressed, face him and ask, “Which pair of shoes do you like better with this outfit?” rather than the universal “Does this make me look fat?”  He’ll accept having to make crucial footwear decisions over EVER having to asses the fit of my jeans any day.

I love a good bargain almost as much as I love a good shoe so imagine my delight when I spotted these babies (never worn!) poised on the shelf at our local thrift store!

Come to mama!

Hot pink, patent leather, and a sizeable wedge sole.  Actual retail thrift store price?  SIX DOLLARS!!!  Be still my beating heart!

This was almost as good as the time that I got this sky high pair of green wedges at Target for $3.94.  Yes, $3.94!!!

I try to coordinate my footwear with the kids’.  That way, when they get lost (because I can’t run fast enough in my heels to catch up with them!) I can at least tell the search party to look for a child wearing the same color shoe!

I did promise my husband to weed through the shoes and discard some of my lesser worn pairs which is a real Sophie’s Choice, I tell ya.  However, the shoe overhaul has led to a closet overhaul,  and for those of you who think I’m going to hurt myself in these heels….I assure you, based upon what I’ve discovered on my hangers, it appears that I enjoy torturing myself in a completely different way.

More on that later.
If I can stand it (shoe pun - ha!)
