If you read last week’s Snow Scene post, then you remember I got a big bag of winter related foam shapes at a yard sale for $1. We have made many fun kids crafts for my small investment. Today, I will share how we made these layered foam snowflakes.
Supplies you will need:
- Foam snowflakes
- Glue
- Glitter
- Thread for hanging
Before the girls started constructing their layered snowflakes, they had fun taking the inserts out and putting them back in. “A” loves puzzles, so she really enjoyed this aspect of the activity.
We talked about how we could layer the snowflakes to make them stand out more. The girls then got started gluing their snowflakes together. ”A” was very careful to use just the right amount of glue.
B was less careful.
The snowflakes looked so pretty when they were glued together. You can leave them like this and hang them up for some fun winter decor. But you know we had to go a step further. There was glitter in my craft closet calling my name. In my head, the kids would paint straight lines on their snowflakes and use some silver glitter to decorate - but my head and reality are often miles apart. My twins are three, they don’t do anything in straight lines, and they are obsessed with the color red.
So this is their idea of putting glitter on our snowflakes. It’s all good though. They had fun and expressed their creativity, and I learned to let go. Parenting just seems like a bunch of opportunities to let go and not be such a control freak.
When our winter snowflakes were done, I hung them up using thread. Now everyone who walks under them gets to be sprinkled in glitter. It’s not so bad for me and the kids, but my hubby has some explaining to do when he gets to work.
Now that Christmas is over, it is nice to still have some winter decorations to brighten up the house.
