5 Spring Break Activities

I have the kids home from school the entire week for Spring Break and have been trying to figure out what to do with them. We have some fun outings and play dates planned, but I need some activities to keep the kids busy, engaged, and learning. I bet some of you are in the same boat. Here are some of our favorite ways to spend Spring Break.

Finger painting with Q-Tips
Most kids enjoy finger painting. Try adding some q-tips to finger painting. Kids can spread the paint around and mix colors with their hands, then make designs and “write” on it with a q-tip. This is a great way for children to practice their letters.

Plastic Bag Painting
Want to paint without the mess? Squeeze some different colors of paint into a large Ziploc bag and seal. Let kids mix the colors and use their fingers to make designs in the paint. This is great exercise for little fingers.

Plant a Garden
Save some individual yogurt containers and buy some seed packets for quick growing flowers. Zinnias, marigolds, and cosmos have always sprouted within a week for us. Have the children scoop some potting soil into the yogurt container and add a few seeds. Then they can cover it with more soil and water. This is a great activity that teaches children responsibility as they care for their flowers each day. When the flowers grow larger, you can transfer them to a larger pot.

Make a Matching Game
Go to your local hardware store with your child and pick some paint chips. The ones that are a single color work best for this game. Make sure you take two of each chip you choose. We found these fun Mickey paint chips. Lay out one of each color paint chip on the floor and place the second one in a deck. Children take turns picking a card from the deck and laying it on top of it’s match. You can also do a version of memory with this by laying out all of the paint chips.

Flower Arranging
I can’t think of a better spring activity. We got all the supplies at the dollar store. You will need some Styrofoam pieces and plastic flowers. Have your children arrange the flowers in the Styrofoam. This really works those hand muscles, and they are just delighted at their beautiful creations. I added some cups that the kids used as vases.
Enjoy your time with the kids!
