Fun Math Games: Numbered Ball Toss

Fun Math Games, #math, #kids
I was never into math as a kid. In fact, if you told me when I was younger that there were fun math games out there, I wouldn’t have believed you. Now that I am a mom, one of my goals if for my kids not to struggle the way I did. I think all moms can relate. So I try and create some fun math games that will be so engaging that the kids won’t know they’re learning. Sneaky huh?

Another Day at the Shire

“So, Mom, while you were gone me and Dad watched Lord of the Rings on TV. It was super cool.”

“I saw it once but I don’t really remember what it’s all about.”

“It’s about these little guys who have breakfast and then after that they have second-breakfast.”

“That’s it?”

“No they have lunch, second-lunch, dinner, and second-dinner too.”

My Modern Wet Nurse

As you know, I am slightly obsessed with Breast Feeding since I had such a hard time with Baby Bear and didn’t get enough milk.

I prayed that I would not have the same issue with Mini, so we monitored it very closely with weight checks every few days in the first few weeks. The verdict was in that I have Insufficient Glandular Tissue sometimes called IBT also.  You can read about it here.  I can produce some milk, but not enough for Mini to thrive on so I have to supplement.  Mini has horrible gas and bloating plus always sounded congested so I tried several types of formula on her and nothing really helped.

What if I could just give her breast milk though?

So I am not into actually having someone physically nurse my baby (besides me) I just needed some milk.

Mini’s Donor Milk

I looked into ‘eats on feets‘ with Baby Bear {a group of women that have milk needs or donations for no charge}  but was not brave enough to try it. I took a leap of faith (more…)

“Mom, Desmond got a new tadpole in the mail today.”

“Very cool.”

“Yeah, it even has part of a leg already. I was thinking we should get a goldfish, you know, to replace Violet.”

“I don’t know if anything could replace the cat.”

“Yeah we can name him Max and he can live in my room because he’ll probably be a boy. Not so cuddly, but more swimmy.”

grammar cheat sheet

This Grammar Cheat Sheet is for ME and I hope you find it helpful in your blogging journey.  I will be using this a lot to remind myself of some of the common mistakes I make when writing.

As bloggers our desire is to share with others our thoughts, our ideas, our life and projects. We want to inspire, encourage, entertain and mostly we want to know our words make a difference even if it’s in the life of one reader. But wouldn’t it be great if we could (more…)

Life with 2 little bears

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013 by by

I feel like I passed a secret test today.  I took my 2 little Bears with me out of the house alone.  Baby Bear needed to use the potty and Mini Bear needed a diaper change.  I helped Baby Bear onto the potty with one hand and held Mini with the other. It seemed like I was on autopilot and I was Super Mom not even thinking of how I was going to do everything at once.

Mini Bear 2 weeks

Baby Bear is slowly getting used to the idea of Mini Bear as her sister.  When she first came to the hospital, she was excited to see the baby for all of two minutes. (more…)

DIY Party Favor Bags

I love Treat Favor Bags, it’s one of my favorite ways to end a party! With this quick idea you can easily customize your party or gift in minutes.

You will need paper with your favorite design, a clear bag, coordinating ribbon and your treat.

In the picture above, I  placed chocolate covered cookies w/ heart sprinkles since we are drawing near to Valentines day. With a fun cupcake wrapper holding the cookies it made for a fun presentation. (more…)

Restaurant Refried Beans from a Can

Monday, January 21st, 2013 by by

I have, for years, eaten terrible refried beans from a can. I had no idea how little it takes to transform an ordinary (and honestly awful) can of refried beans into a wonderful side for your Mexican food that tastes as good as your favorite restaurant.

Ingredients
*1 can refried beans
*grease from 4 slices of cooked bacon (not healthy, I know- but amazing!)
*1 1/2 tsp chili powder
*1 Tb onion salt
*1/2 Tb cumin

“… so that’s a grande soy latte? And your name?”

“Page.”

“Thanks, Page. Here’s your change.”

“Mom, your name’s not Page.”

“Yes it is.”

“Your name’s Lisa.”

“My Starbuck’s name is Page.”

“Can I have a Starbuck’s name?”

“Sure.”

“I’m going to be Ozzy Osbourne from Black Sabbath.”

“Ozzy’s a good name.”

“No, not just ‘Ozzy.’ It’s Ozzy Osbourne from Black Sabbath.”
