A Day-ish in the Life…

Friday, March 29th, 2013 by by

After writing my last post about the busy-ness that is my life, I thought it would be fun to do a picture version of a day in my life. So, I tried to take pics of all the things that I do in one day…but then I got too busy to remember. So, instead, you get some pictures compiled over a week that loosely represent my day as a working mom of 2 kids.

My day starts the night before when I pack pump supplies…

10 Tips for Surviving the Terrible Twos

10 Tips for Surviving the Terrible Twos - Advice to get through this rough year. #parenting #toddlers
Now that all my kids are 3 years old and over, I feel like I can look back with some impartiality at that trying year known as the terrible twos. Do all kids go through the terrible twos? How can you survive it with your sanity intact? Read on for my top 10 tips for surviving the terrible twos.

Lets start off by defining the terrible twos. Parenting books will tell you that the terrible twos are a normal stage of development where a child’s need for independence clashes with their need for adults. The result of this clash is often temper tantrums, oppositional behavior and all around moodiness. You never quite know what this child will do from one moment to the next as their moods change frequently.

Often the terrible twos start before a child’s second birthday. For my youngest they started at around 18 months. They can also go past the age of 2. Will all kids go through the terrible twos? No, so you may be one of the lucky ones, though I suspect if you are reading this, you are not. Only my youngest went through the terrible twos. One of my twins has been pretty even tempered her entire life, while my other had a great 2nd year and went crazy at 3, just when I thought I was out of the woods! (more…)

Back that %#@& Up!!!

Oh God, how I wish was talking about getting your grove on at a night club. A)I’m not that cool. I’m lucky I know what the “Harlem Shake” is. B) I think we all know that as a new mother the only club I’m seeing these days is a comedy club when I’m working OR the one in my dreams. But let’s be real, the night club in my dreams has the theme to “Elmo’s World” and “Baa Baa Black Sheep” playing on constant rotation. Believe me the only way it could be worse is if it was in techno.

No, the backing up I’m referring to is anything important on your cell phone. I mean ALL information (more…)

Easter Crafts

Wednesday, March 27th, 2013 by by

The daycare has been busy with kids doing Easter crafts. One of the crafts we did last week was potato print Easter eggs. This is the same craft we did a couple of years ago.

I helped the kids to mix the paints to make pastel colours. Then they dipped cut potatoes into the paint, and stamped them onto Bristol Board, shaped like eggs. (more…)

Saving Money……..

Picture from Camp Wander blog where you can grab the recipes for all sorts of goodies :)

I’ve had it with buying things that I can make myself. I started with cleaners. I stopped buying them! I make my own with vinegar and Dr. Bronner’s Sal Suds. Works wonderfully, too, I might add. Now, on to detergents. I did the math (not really) and I can save myself a ton of money by making my own. I spend at least $40 a month in detergents alone. That’s dishwasher and laundry detergents. I just spent $30 at Walmart on supplies to make my own, and it should last me a year. I will keep tabs on that and let you know exactly how long it lasts. I’m hoping this works out well. I have three elderly dogs and I’m doing laundry every damn day!! I’m not even kidding. Puke towels, pee towels, cleaning rags…’s tiring, and expensive. If I had been smart I would have had them put in the divorce papers that my ex pay for the laundry! It’s mostly the two older dogs who he had before we met that are making the messes. Getting old sucks.

So here I am, sitting in the kitchen, blogging, making my own soap and I can’t help but feel like I should be singing Kumbaya or something like that. Seriously! Who am I?! ;)

“First, I don’t know that it’s possible to drill to the center of the earth.”

“But if it was.”

“But Desmond and Felix read it today with their third grade reading buddy and it was a non-fiction. That means it’s real mom. Real.
