Peppermint bark is everywhere this time of year, and no wonder, it’s easy to make and tastes great. However, many kids aren’t that fond of the taste of peppermint. One of my kids in particular will not eat anything with a minty flavor. I was looking for an alternative to Peppermint Bark and found some cherry flavored candy canes. They were not only colorful, but they had a sweet cherry flavor that my kids loved. I decided to make Candy Cane Bark for my daughter to enjoy. It’s great to serve at a party or package up in a tin for gift giving along with some Candied Pecans. Read the rest of this entry »
Making candle holders with my kids is one of my favorite holiday projects. You just need a few items and can change up the look of the candle holder depending on the color of tissue paper you use. In the past we have made a St. Patrick’s Day Votive and an Inexpensive Valentine Gift. This simple Kids Christmas Craft makes a great holiday gift as well. Let’s just say that Grandma and former teachers have a few of these candle holders. There are few things better than a child made gift, are there? Read the rest of this entry »

I was challenged by Bing to create a seasonal craft based on an idea I found using their Smart Search on Windows 8.1. I love a challenge, and I have been thinking about upgrading to Windows 8.1 so the ability to create a fun kids’ craft and play around with a new computer really appealed to me. With Thanksgiving approaching, I have been in the mood to make a Turkey Craft with the kids. Read the rest of this entry »

In Honda’s “Start Something Special” program, Honda fans are treated to huge, touching surprises. When a newlywed couple, Mairead and Kevin, requested three black CR-Vs from a local Honda dealer for their special day, Honda came back with something very unexpected. Honda decided to surprise the couple with not three, but eight Honda CR-Vs containing heartwarming gifts representing memories from the couples’ relationship over the years. Check out this video to see their reaction, as they are surprised with the band they listened to on their first date, Irish step dancers, and relatives flown all the way in from Ireland. To join the conversation, follow #StartSomething on Facebook and Twitter, and visit HondaStories.com for more stories from Honda fans.
It’s time for another installment of Paint and Play, a series I am doing with Crystal from Growing a Jeweled Rose and Tammy from Housing a Forest. In Paint and Play, we share ideas for having fun with paint. The challenge this week was to use glue and paint to create some art. We made Black Glue and Watercolor Pumpkins. In the past we have made Fall Leaves Using Black Glue and a Black Glue and Salt Watercolor Rainbow. Black glue is fun medium to work with that is created by mixing black paint with white glue. My twins turned 5 this week and we are having a carnival themed birthday party for them this weekend. After all our work making rainbow cupcakes for their fourth birthday, I was in the mood for something a little more simple this year. I have seen “popcorn cupcakes” all over pinterest and they looked easy enough, so I enlisted one of the birthday girls to help me in the kitchen. These cupcakes are not only adorable, but they are simple enough to make that a child can help. Read the rest of this entry »
