Valentines Day Activity: Love Coupons for the Family

Tuesday, February 12th, 2013 by by Inspired by Family

valentines day love coupons

Acts of Love are the best gifts you can give, in my opinion. You are going to love this Acts of Love Coupons for the family idea and all the fun that comes with it.

I prefer gifts that tell me that you actually thought about me and considered my likes and desires when purchasing a gift. Or that you spent time making me something. And even better, spending time with you and sharing life over coffee. Those are gifts I enjoy receiving. When we first got married my husband liked to purchase extravagant and expensive gifts for me. I always ended up returning them because I prefer the gift of time, service and conversation any day than an expensive $200 bracelet. (more…)

10 Reasons You’re Glad I Didn’t Blog In My 20s

20-Year-Old Lisa by Stuart Vance, 1984
You might have tired of reports of my hostessing gig at the Red Onion and the
injustice of my having been fired especially after I wore that rented Easter Bunny
costume and hopped down Cannon Drive in Beverly Hills passing out
brunch coupons. (Like, those jerks at corporate down in Carson make it all so political.)I preferred solo Sting to Sting of The Police and we may have parted ways over that.
I’m so sure.

Things only a Grandparent can do {via modern technology}

Friday, January 25th, 2013 by by BrookeLeiberman

Baby Bear just assumes that when she talks to someone that there is the possibility to FaceTime or Skype and see them.  She is growing up in a world where this is the default and your friends and family can join you at anytime on real time video.

Tonight Baby Bear really did not want to go to bed in her own bed and was having a hysterical breakdown.  Mr. BBH was not home.  I tried to calm her down and put her back in bed, but nothing worked.  I called my Dad {Baby Bear’s “Babba”} since I knew her would help and not judge my parenting {my mom totally would tell me what to do!}.

I got Baby Bear to go in her own bed with a promise that Babba would FaceTime.  My Dad called (more…)

grammar cheat sheet

This Grammar Cheat Sheet is for ME and I hope you find it helpful in your blogging journey.  I will be using this a lot to remind myself of some of the common mistakes I make when writing.

As bloggers our desire is to share with others our thoughts, our ideas, our life and projects. We want to inspire, encourage, entertain and mostly we want to know our words make a difference even if it’s in the life of one reader. But wouldn’t it be great if we could (more…)

Another Year Gone……..

Tuesday, January 15th, 2013 by by Nina

I blinked, and now it’s 2013. Last year was full of so much craziness! I am hoping this year is better, slower. Todd and I are thinking about moving this Summer. Kevin wants us to stay here and buy this house, but honestly, I don’t want to. So much work needs to be done here and I’m not in love with this house anymore. I will miss it, but I’m not going to mourn when we leave. We want something of our own, even if we just rent for a few years and then buy. It’ll be worth the wait. I’ve decided that I want a house with a huge yard so I can have some chickens. Yes, chickens! I’ve always wanted to have little chickens running around, but never had the room. :) And eggs, lots and lots of eggs!!

So the purging has begun. Very slowly, but surely, I am packing things up, donating things and trying to get things going. I had forgotten how nice it is to have an extra pair of hands to help out around the house. Todd has really stepped up when I’ve needed him to, I appreciate that more than I could ever tell him. Being a single mom was not easy! I don’t think I want to do that again. Ever. LOL!!

I start working overtime here real soon. Boss Lady is having a baby in March! So glad to see my friends having babies so I don’t have to. Vasectomy is my favorite word. ;) I have three kids, Todd has two, we’re all set. Since seeing Boss Lady’s baby bump, Lo has been obsessed with babies in the belly, and am I going to have anymore, when will she have a baby, and so on and so forth. She’s also been asking when Todd and I are going to get married. NEVER!!! I am not going to fix something that’s not broken. We’re perfectly happy the way we are. And plus, we were both married before and look what happened to those marriages! All set.

I’ve been thinking about this coming year and all the new things to look forward to, and I’m happy. Very, very happy. I just hope Life doesn’t see that as a challenge and throw me for a loop!! o.O

Thinking About THE WORD

Thursday, January 10th, 2013 by by meanboys

I was too lazy to come up with a better image, but gorillas can sure look pensive, no?
This year, coming up with my ONE WORD feels hard.  I’m compiling a list of goals for myself, but what I really want my word to embody is the way I want to feel in the new year - and so far I’m not sure that feeling has a word.  Well…I’m sure it does, I just haven’t found it yet.  When I do, you’ll be the first to know ;)

While I work out the details, here’s a look at the last three years of words:

What I’ve Been Up to Since Last Year

Tuesday, January 8th, 2013 by by meanboys

It is nearly impossible to get things done with six people off of work and school.  The less my kids and husband have to keep them occupied, the more popular I become.

We enjoyed two weeks of Rob being home, which at first was hard - because he had to get used to our home routine and I had to learn to let him be part of our home routine.  There were a few bumps in the road, but honestly, once the added stress of Christmas was over, it was pretty smooth sailing (and by “smooth” I mean, no one has been killed or injured…yet).

The kids went back to school today without much hoopla.  As much as I wanted to celebrate the fact that they were back to their routine, I quickly realized that it meant that I had to get back to MY routine - and that routine involves a lot of getting up early, cleaning things, cooking things, and driving.  Boo.

At the beginning of December a baby shower invitation arrived in the mail, which was puzzling because I don’t know any pregnant people.  Turns out, I do!

My best friend from elementary school is finally having a baby!!  She had numerous, serious health problems when we were growing up and well into adulthood, but when she married 18 years ago (more…)

Thanks for a Great Week

Friday, December 28th, 2012 by by meanboys

What day is it today?  Does anybody even know?  I feel like I lived three lifetimes in the past 6 days…that’s how much stuff went on.  I thank the Universe that we didn’t travel over the holiday because that would have been the final nail in my coffin.

So…let’s just do a quick recap using my always-limited, never high-quality, iPhone pictures!

Last week I only had Monday and Tuesday to myself (well, technically not all to myself, but with school still in session), so I tried to enjoy my final moments of relative calm before the storm.

Monday, I purchased the world’s smallest “small” coffee:

Seriously?  It was embarrassing to drink because holding this cup made me look like I had gargantuan man-hands.  This approximated .000000001% of my day’s caffeine intake.

Thank goodness I had the sustenance of that coffee (more…)

Leaving my childhood home behind

Friday, December 28th, 2012 by by BrookeLeiberman

My parents lived in the same house since I was 3.  My brother and sister were born and  grew up in that house.  I lived there until college, then again for a few months when we first moved back from Israel and then from Chicago.  It has really been over 15 years since I lived there though.  I ‘gave up’ my room to my little sister when I moved to Israel (I had the biggest bedroom).  It was an homage to the 90’s complete with laminate kitchen, vintage John Morgan designed built ins and textured walls in the dining room.  BUT, I still felt that it was my comfort place.  They did do some updates recently (I wish I had pictures of the 90’s style to show you!)  to make the house more appealing and bringing the style slightly closer to the new millennium.   All of the meals and holidays that we celebrated as a family felt so comfy and cozy when we were at my parent’s house.

My parents have tried on and off to move since I was in middle school and there was always something that did not work out.  Now that they are truly empty-nesters, they decided that they needed to move and we were all so surprised at how fast the house sold.   (more…)
