Monday, September 16th, 2013 by by
And, yes, this is my hubby enjoying his spa experience

Ready to relax from a hard day’s work? Or maybe you just feel like you deserve some extra pampering? Here is an easy solution- a warm, relaxing foot soak. What do you need?

* 1 gallon of warm water
* 1 large bowl
* 1 cucumber, sliced
* 1 packet of lemonade flavored Kool-Aid

Pour everything together into a large bowl and just add your feet! It will refresh and invigorate your senses.

Enjoying your DIY home spa? Add a bit of my DIY brown sugar scrub to smooth your feet (and hands!) in order to give yourself the complete experience of relaxation.

Working Out Without Knowing It

Tuesday, August 13th, 2013 by by

While we were in New Hampshire last month, there was a great hill we had to walk up to use the neighbor’s pool. The kids ran up like it was nothing, and it reminded me how small people exercise without even realizing it. I had to wonder when that sort of ‘natural’ working out stops in our lives and how we can get it back. It seems like we have to carve time into our schedules to move our bodies, and that saddens me. I’ve been trying to take a cue from my kiddos and be active whenever I can (in the pool, outside while they’re playing, in the house cleaning or whatever), and I’ve been a bit more successful. There’s room for improvement, of course, but I’m trying to restructure my life a bit so it’s more “normal.”

Six years ago today, I played in the rain with my best friend…

I am so thankful for Mrs. Kuiken’s AP Prob and Stat class.

I am so grateful that we ran into you and Taylor on RAGBRAI where you shamelessly flirted with me…in front of my boyfriend :)

I am so happy that you decided to come to Normie’s house for our New Year’s Eve Party.

I am so glad you came to visit me over 2 hours away a week after our not-so-amazing first date.

I am so incredibly happy to have you on my team through this crazy adventure that we call life.

Blogging Should Be Easy……

Friday, August 2nd, 2013 by by

But it isn’t. Especially when my life has been consumed by trying to find a place to live, a place that will allow three dogs and a cat. Let me tell you something, that is not easy. Not one damn bit. BUT, I did it. I found us a new home. This is currently how it looks………

I don’t know who left me in charge of getting this place together, but they must have been crazy. I am terrible at organizing. That gene completely missed me altogether. It might help if I get off the computer and actually tried to get things done. ;)

Feeling good about that ‘Starbucks Habit’!

Wednesday, June 12th, 2013 by by

I admit it, I LOVE a cup of Starbucks to start my day.  I usually brew it at home, but I do treat myself from time to time.  I noticed at Starbucks that they are now advertising that they give their coffee grounds away for your garden!

coffee grounds from starbucks

Coffee grounds are a safe way to fertilize your garden and you don’t have to worry about little hands getting into it since it is safe.  You can add it to a worm compost, or just put it straight on your garden.

When I needed some coffee ground for my garden, Starbucks gave me a HUGE bag of grounds.  You might want to even bring a bucket to keep it in in your car.  My car smelled so delicious! (more…)

New Adventures in Daycareland

Tuesday, June 11th, 2013 by by

We have a new little girl at the daycare for the next few weeks! Her name is Riko and she is almost 3 years old. She has come all the way from Japan, with her mother. She speaks very little English, and so is quite the little warrior in a new land.

Wash Me

Sunday, June 9th, 2013 by by

“Jeff? Honey, do you have time to take the station wagon to get washed tomorrow?”

“Does it have to be tomorrow?”

“I keep having to go to the west side to places where I have to valet park.”

“The car’s such a wreck, I just know one of these days when I go to tip the guy, he’s going to feel sorry for me and give me the money back.”

“Got it.”

10 Ways to Save on Your Electric Bill

Monday, May 27th, 2013 by by

I have recently moved from a small apartment where my utility bill was combined with my rent payment to a large home where my husband and I are fully responsible for every drop of water every degree on the thermostat. While our home isn’t terribly expensive to live in, our utilities are almost a quarter of what we pay in rent. That said, it is well worth my while to do things to cut back on my electric bill. And if you, like me, are looking for ways to cut down on what you spend each month, try out a few of these VERY easy methods. (I’m not going to ask you replace all of your appliances or paint your roof white)

1. Re-chargeable Flashlights Buy a few hand-crank, battery-free flashlights. Place them in dark closets or pantries where you may seldom go but each time you go into them, you’ll need light. Rather than turning on the light bulb, hang one of these flashlights by the light switch and use it for those few moments when you’re in the closet. You only need to wind them a few times by hand and you’ll not only not have to pay for electricity to turn on the light, but you’ll never have to pay for batteries, either. Added bonus: In case of emergency, you are good to go! (more…)
