Baby Shower

Welcome to melodrama, high-maintenance, and many ruined lipsticks. And a lot of cuteness ;)

One of the benefits of having younger friends is that eventually they start to have babies. If you are done having your own babies, watching someone else suffer join the ranks of motherhood is the next best thing.

My friend, Meghan is having baby girl in about 3 weeks. One of the ways that I have been celebrating her impending doom maternity is to happily shoo about 4,000 pounds of Larissa *stuff* her way. The other was to throw her a shower.

No boys allowed.
I went with the inspired theme of “pink” and set to work most of Saturday getting things in order. My family watched joyously as I made cupcakes and chocolate dipped strawberries. Their joy however, soon turned to (more…)

A little early, but oh well…

I’ve been thinking a lot about baby showers already.  I know it’s a little preemptive, but oh well.  I’m not a huge fan of relying on other people.  For one reason or another, things so often don’t work out the way they plan and I get frustrated.  More often than not, I just find it easier to take care of things myself.  For this and several other reasons, I’m really considering throwing my own baby shower this time.  Is that too weird?

I don’t want a traditional shower by any means.  Hubs and I have been discussing just having a big bbq/potluck kind of thing at our house.  Sort of just a celebration of the baby-to-be.  I don’t want it all about gifts and games or anything.  We really don’t need anything.  If Deuce is a boy, all we NEED is some cloth diapers.  If Deuce is a girl, all I need to add to that list is some clothes.  For newborn clothes, Junior just lived in the basic sleeper style one piece outfits.

I feel sort of weird wanting to host my own shower, but I love having people over and hosting parties.  I’d love for all of our friends and family to be welcome; couples, kids, coworkers, etc, rather than just an event for my female friends and relatives.  I don’t know.  Is it TOO weird?  I know it’s not traditional, but if you were invited to a “shower” like that, would you find it weird?  Would you be put off by it?

Baby Shower!

This post is long over due (sorry, I don’t have pictures of my guests or decor but I didn’t have my camera).

Last month, I had my very first baby shower (I’m having another one in August for those who live in NJ). It was a lovely Sunday afternoon and my family and friends (PA related) were all coming into town to celebrate my journey into motherhood. I’ve been anticipating this day for weeks because nothing really brings to light your having a baby than in your face baby stuff.

So many people came which made me feel my daughter is already loved. Some of my family drove all the way up from Virgina and others drove from Connecticut. WOW, what a drive! But I was so happy to see them. The festivities started a little late but everything went really well. We played a trivia game, baby shower bingo, and I got to open all the nicely wrapped gifts for my daughter (of course, my mother was (more…)

After the Baby Shower…

Friday, June 25th, 2010 by by

So, our baby shower was a week ago (last Saturday) and we’ve gone through all the wonderful gifts we received… And boy, was there a lot!

I will say, I read a lot about finding out the gender online when we were originally deciding what we wanted to do. Some people said that finding out the gender was a good thing for baby showers, especially if you hate green and yellow (like I do!). Others said it was a bad thing, because most of the gifts you receive are gender appropriate clothes. Especially if you have a GIRL.

Well, they were right about the clothes… Probably 75% of what we got consisted of adorable little pink outfits. BUT we also got a bunch of great additions to our diaper stash, some bottles and sippy cups, a wrap to carry baby, cute teething toys, pacifiers, baby bath, and all kinds of related goodies!

Oh, and this AWESOME thermometer from my mom and dad. Made by Vicks, it actually (more…)

I woke up Saturday morning feeling fabulous. I seriously felt better than I had since becoming pregnant. I spent some time in the afternoon sitting outside on a blanket reading, just enjoying the weather. It had been a long winter, and having warm, dry weather was wonderful.

My upstairs neighbor’s mother had come to visit her. Her mother was a labor and delivery nurse, and when I told her that I felt so good, she told me she’d expect me to go into labor within the next couple of days. I didn’t know if I believed it, but she swore up and down (more…)

My Surprise Baby Shower!!

Monday, June 22nd, 2009 by by

Oh my, you figure on bed rest I would have more time to blog. But I find that things have become pretty dull around here! The days go by in a blur, I have no concept of time, I just know that I eventually I have to sleep every once in a while!

BUT I finally have something exciting to report! Last night was my surprise baby shower! My husband threw the whole thing with the help of my friend Jen and other family friends of ours. It was fantastic! They did such a great job hiding it from me, I had no idea that the “birthday party” I was going to last night was actually my baby shower!

I don’t have the pictures from the actual shower yet, I am waiting for my friend to e-mail them all to me.

It was a great time and lots of people showed up! Some no shows but hey, that is life right? I had a blast anyway and I am just so appreciative of everyone who has reached out and helped us, especially with me being on bed rest and not working.

So here are some pics of the loot so far. I sat there and organized everything, but have NO WHERE to put it, since I am not able to clean out closets and drawers, or organize anything for that matter until bed rest is over! So for now, everything is in my kitchen, haha.

Does anyone know how exciting it is to get baby wipes and diapers?! I could have cried I was so happy! Amazing how the second baby changes your wants and needs huh.
