Homemade Laundry Detergent

Hope ya’ll are having a great Holiday with family and friends. I think we’re having a great time! ((These posts are scheduled)) We are out of town and I hope you enjoy this post from Amanda at Simple Saving Savvy. Thanks to Amanda for sharing her recipe with us. I think ya’ll will love it and if you try it out let us know! I have also wanted to make my own fabric softner. I usually don’t use any, but when hubby decides to wash his own clothes (once every few months or so) he goes out and pays full price for that stuff. If you have a recipe that you like to use, feel free to share it with us. Click HERE to see the original post. Enjoy & Merry Christmas!  – Cinella

1 bar  Fels-Naptha (grated finely)
1 1/2 cups Borax
1 1/2 cups Washing Soda
Mix all ingredients thoroughly and store in an airtight container. Use 1-2 tablespoons per load of laundry.
Your total cost for the batch will be around $2.19. If you use 2 tablespoons per load, you’ll get 36 loads out of the batch which works out to just $0.06 per load.
If you would like, you can also add 1 cup of oxi-clean to the mix to increase stain removing ability. This will increase your cost to about $0.08 per load. (more…)

Homemade Powdered Laundry Detergent

When Snowflake was just a few weeks old, she developed a nasty eczema rash. At first, we figured it might be a food allergy so I went on an elimination diet for several weeks with no luck. Then we speculated that it might be an environmental allergy to certain chemicals in her baby wash, lotion and detergent. At the time, I was using a pretty standard laundry detergent, Johnson’s baby wash and Johnson’s baby lotion. We threw out the lotions and baby wash and replaced it with Dr. Brommer’s baby mild soap, an all natural lotion and I started using an all natural detergent. That seemed to do the trick, and her rash cleared right up!

Well, after some time using the new detergent, we ran out again and I decided to make our own and see if that works just as well. I was amazed at how easy this detergent was to make!
