Pepperoni Pizza Crescents

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012 by by

If your kids are picky eaters, raise your hand. Yup, that’s me with both hands up. If I had a third hand, that would be up too, since I have three picky eaters. If you have been a reader for any length of time, you already know that. So, when I find something that they will actually eat, I stick with it. One thing I discovered they love is crescents. You know, the kind in the tube. I have tried many variations from pigs in a blanket to peanut butter and chocolate crescents, and they always eat them. I was trying to think of more ways to fill a crescent and came up with a pepperoni pizza filling.  It was a hit!

Supplies You will need:
  • Tube of crescent rolls
  • Pizza Sauce
  • Mozzarella
  • Pepperoni

Money-Saving Recipes

There are plenty of recipes for items that are more expensive to make than to buy pre-made. The trick is finding the ones that are cheaper to make at home. Pancake syrup is one of them. Pizza sauce and dough is another. Here are a few money-saving recipes our family enjoys:

Maple Syrup
Combine in saucepan:

  • 1 ¾ cup white sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup water

Bring to boil, cover, and cook 1 minute. Cool slightly. Add:

  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • ½ teaspoon maple flavoring

Cover saucepan for a few minutes as syrup cooks to melt down crystals

Store in the refrigerator.

I made this today and was surprised how easy and better tasting it was compared to the cheap store-brand syrup. I was able to whip it up while my pancakes were cooking and have it ready in a jiffy! (note: if you don’t normally keep maple flavoring on hand in your pantry, I highly suggest you start. It is a relatively inexpensive ingredient that can add lots of flavor and zing to many recipes like this one.)

Pizza Dough- No Rise, No Yeast

  • 2 C Flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 2/3 C water
  • 1/4 C + 2 TBSP olive Oil
  • Optional- Garlic Powder, Italian Seasoning, etc to taste

Pre heat to 425

Party Pizza

I’ve made this a few times now. All the kids love it, Chris and I enjoy it, and any meal that isn’t met with even one child complaining is a major win in our house!

You can use premade pizza dough if you want, I prefer to make my own. It makes me feel better about feeding my kids party pizza for dinner! Pizza dough is pretty simple to make. I’ve seen this recipe, or similar ones, all over the internet – this is my take.

You’ll need:
1 1/2 c. warm (105-115 degrees) water
1 Tbsp. sugar
1 Tbsp. yeast
1/2 tsp. salt
3-4 1/2 c. flour

Mix the first three ingredients together and let the yeast rise until bubbly, about 10 minutes.

Mix the salt in, and then start adding flour. Of course I make this in Betsy. (more…)

Baked Potato Pizza

I have been craving baked potato pizza every night. A local restaurant serves a small one as an appetizer but at $6, that could get pretty expensive!
