Valentine’s Mail Folder: Messages of Love and Appreciation

Monday, February 13th, 2012 by by

Last week, I had each of the kids make their own Valentine’s mail folder by gluing pink and purple hearts onto a red folder with their name on it. (Oscar got a little help.)

Although these folders can and probably will be used on Valentine’s Day for the kids to exchange Valentines cards, I wanted to first use them for delivering messages of kindness.

Valentine’s Day Craft for Kids

Saturday, February 11th, 2012 by by

I had so much fun with this. I wasn’t sure exactly what I was looking for when I went to Dollar Tree, but I got some ideas while I was there. The first one was this:

  • Different sized paper plates of any color (I chose red and pink)
  • Either construction paper for cutting shapes out or pre-made Valentine’s Day foam cutouts
  • Glue
  • Ribbon (optional, depending on how you want to display the craft)

She had a blast, and all we did was decorate the smaller plate, then glue it inside the bigger plate. The Younger decided to decorate that as well, and now it’s drying. From here, we’re going to punch a hole in the top and hang it from the roof of our porch. But really, you can do anything with it, even make it a full-sized Valentine for someone.

Well, it is February! I have a great freebie for you, but first let me take a moment to tell you about some of the things I have planned for this month!

This week my freebie is a Valentines Themed Game called Where is Cupid. This card game targets prepositions by showing Cupid in different positions around other objects. Here is what the cards look like:

Thrifty Thursday – Inexpensive Valentine Gift

Thursday, February 9th, 2012 by by

Valentine’s day is fast approaching, and I was looking for a gift for the kids to give to grandma. I immediately thought of doing something handmade, since I am all about saving money and let’s be honest, you just can’t beat the handiwork of a three year old. I went to one of my favorite places, the dollar store, for inspiration. I found some votive candle holders and tissue paper. An idea was born. Don’t you just love dollar store crafts? Here is one even little kids can do.
Supplies you will need:

  • Glass votive candle holder
  • Red and pink tissue paper
  • Mod Podge
  • Brush
  • Votive candle

Food Fun Friday – Valentine Swirl Cupcakes

Friday, February 3rd, 2012 by by

With Valentine’s Day less than a month away, we thought we would bake some special cupcakes. Hey, it’s never too early to get ready for the big day. I thought we would try and make some color swirl cupcakes using squirt bottles so it would be easier for the kids to help. These were simple to make, and the mess was somewhat contained because of the bottles.

Supplies you will need:

  • Cake mix (yes, I got it on clearance at Target for 71 cents)
  • Squirt bottles, like you would use for condiments
  • Frosting
  • Red Food Coloring
  • Muffin tray

Bubble Wrap Valentine’s Day Craft

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012 by by

We have this big roll of bubble wrap here in our garage, and I’ve been trying to come up with a way to use it. I’ve heard great things about painting with bubble wrap, so I decided to try this today with The Younger. I cut some bubble wrap into a square and then set out the tempera paint and some brushes.

I put each color in a separate Dixie cup, and then showed her how to paint the bubbles. She was so excited! I should have known that the activity would take a different turn, and it did. She just wanted to mix all the colors in the cups, so I let her go to town and do whatever she wanted. Messy? Yes. Fun? Yes yes yes!!!!

Getting a Jump on Love

Sunday, February 13th, 2011 by by

This time last year found me in sheer Valentine’s Day panic.

I have to admit that, this past Thursday night, I broke out into a cold sweat around 9:00 p.m. fearing a repeat.  I worried that I’d somehow missed the memo informing me that the kids’ classes would be having their parties on Friday rather than Monday.  After some frantic digging through backpacks, I confirmed that the parties would indeed take place on February 14th.   I breathed a sigh of relief and vowed that, this year, we’d be ahead of the game.  And we were….but not by much. This afternoon, we crammed card making into the tight space between soccer camp, Valentine’s and birthday parties, shopping trips, and sleepovers.

A few weeks ago, I happened to be in Michael’s when February craft supplies were on special.  I stocked up on plain paper hearts and Valentine’s Day balloons and figured I’d come up with some brilliant idea for how to use them.  I don’t know if they’re brilliant, but I think Eliza’s cards turned out pretty well.

We took a shortcut by decorating the hearts with pink and red Bingo markers.

Both Rob and Eliza needed me to decode the meaning of S.W.A.K.  Amateurs.

Valentine’s Laziness

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010 by by

The last 2 years wasn’t all that great. You know, something about being pregnant and then having 11 month old triplets kills the mood, haha. This year was different. It started with roses and a big box from Victoria’s Secret. I can’t tell you the last time I got something from VS! Gooooooo Todd! I got Todd a cool retro Star Wars shirt cuz he’s all in to that. Ok, so am I.

I even managed to lay down and nap with my honey. If you know anything about me, you know (more…)
