So ladies I went to my doc apt today and we deicded to take me off of met and go on clomid. Well since he put me on BC in Jan Im going to keep taking the bc for three months and then get on the clomid because he said I should start taking clomid 4 months before my husband comes home well my husband comes home in Oct so I have 8 months til he gets here. So I was wondering who is taking clomid and who has gotten pregnant while on it??? And if anyof u guys have info on clomid I would really appreciate if u would email it to me my email address is derricksgurl05@hotmail.com I have to make my decision by the 21st because thats when my next appointment is. Thanks Ladies [i]

I've never heard of some of the information he told you. I take Clomid and Metformin together. My dr prescribed them both at the same time and told me that I would always take Metformin to control my PCOS. (Other than when I get pregnant) He also will only let me take Clomid for 3 maybe 4 months. He says that it is not healthy to take it more than that. That is interesting that you dr wants you to take it 4 months before you could even possibly try to conceive. I would get a second opinion. Check on ttc with Medical Assistance and there is a sticky with information on Clomid. Also, read around there for more info. I've just never heard of taking Clomid 4 months before you were even trying to conceive.

Good luck!

I take both... You need another opinion.

I go EVERY month for an US if I have a cyst over 15mm I cant take the Clomid if they are under 15mm I get one month supply (5pills) of clomid. Otherwise I am on Metiformin everyday.

Clomid makes you ovulate (still new at this but this is what I've got so far) so whats the point of "ovulating with out intent to concieve"

You take clomid on CD's 5-9 then 'O' around days 10-15 depending on the woman. My OB said on the months that I take clomid to "do the deed" every other day (evens) so days 10,12,14,16,18,20 and 22. But since that hasnt worked yet I "Perscribed" myself sex everyday! LMAO

*sidebar- Clomid is great for the sexlife. with out it I have NO URGE with it I am ALWAYS ready.. I know TMI huh but its something to think about if you are planning on taking it when DH is not around. KWIM?

Not to mention the price.... $18-100 (depending on the pharmacy) for a fertility med that is not going to help get pregnant if there are no smerp to poke at the egg!

I agree with the other ladies, I have never heard of doing what your doc is suggesting and I also think you need a 2nd opinion. If you have PCOS you should continue to take Met even if you are not TTC because it helps control all the other symptoms. Also, there is really no reason to take Clomid if you are not actively TTC, it is a drug to help you ovulate, why take it when there is no chance of fertilization. Also, what rmiller stated is also true, you are only supposed to take Clomid for 3-4 cycles, I really wouldn't take it if your DH isn't even here for it to do any good.

When I conceived my daughter, I was on Met and Clomid, but also had to have a 'trigger shot' of Ovidrel to force my body to ovulate. It worked on my 3rd cycle. I also continued to take Met throughout pregnancy as it is supposed to help lower the high percentage of miscarriages among women with PCOS. I would seriously get a 2nd opinion, it doesn't sound like this doc knows what he is doing, IMO. Keep us updated.
