I have been considering an IUD, but have heard some pretty terrible things about them. I am leaning more towards Mirena (I like the idea of lighter/no periods vs heavier/longer periods w/ Paragard). I am currently using NuvaRing, and I actually really like it. But what has your experience been with an IUD??

I have a copper IUD - and after an initial 3 or 4 weeks of cramping & spotting, I now LOVE my IUD!!! My periods ARE a little heavier, and the first proper period after I got it in was a lot more painful, but my last one wasn't really anymore painful than normal.
I think like all forms of birth control, different things work for different women. I can't have any hormonal b/c (except depo) due to some medication I'm on, so the IUD was really my only option (because i hate hormonal b/c)... It DID hurt getting it inserted, and I DID have cramps for about 3 weeks afterward, and bleeding for almost a month, but I guess that is a small sacrifice for 5 years of protections!!!!
If you want to chat about it at all, flick me a PM :)

I had an awful expierence with Mirena. The only thing I liked was no periods. I lost hair, gained weight, had no sex drive and acne galore. It caused my tubes to become infected so I just had it removed today. Who knows what permanent damage it caused.
