welcome to the board! My name is Emma, i'm 24 & have a 21 1/2 mo DD - Gaby. I have a copper IUD myself - and honestly, I love it. I wish I'd gotten one ages ago! The first month for me was pretty yucky - spotting & cramping, BUT after the first period (which came 1 day after my spotting had stopped - typical!) things definately settled down!!!! I recommend it!

The copper ones have no hormones, while the plastic ones contain hormones. I have heard that you can have heavier, longer periods with a Copper.
I have a Mirena (plastic) and I love it. Like Emma said, the first month is a bit uncomfortable, and the procedure to put it in is terrible, but its a wonderful thing after its in because you don't have to worry about it for 5 years! I think the Copper ones can be used for up to 10 years.
Welcome to the board, Im kasie! Hope you stick around.
