I have no idea Hun, I have the Mirena and nothing like that has happened to me.
If it keeps up for another day or so I would call your Dr. real quick and see what they say!

ditto.gif I definately agree. You should call your doctor. If this is abnormal for you then yes definately call. Its not going to hurt anything. I don't have an IUD so I can't really sympathize with you, sorry. But GL and KUP!! dothug.gif

Just wanted to let u know i have a Paraguard IUD and had the same thing a few months back brownish discharge. I had all the tests done and all came back clear and it went away on its own. Doctor thinks it was just spotting/discharge from having the IUD which is very common. I'd had the IUD for like 10 months when this happened too.

thank you i hope it goes away soon

She probably didn't run any tests because irregular spotting and bleeding is a common side effect of the Paraguard (that information should have been included in a patient printout given to you when you had it inserted). It's because the Paraguard works by causing irritation to the lining of the uterus to prevent implantation, but this inflammation means the lining is unstable - so some of it can slough off at any time (spotting/bleeding). Ordinarily during the infertile parts of your cycle there is a mucus plug in your cervix, but the strings from the IUD hang through the cervix and disrupt that plug to it can't seal off the cervix completely. That allows that bleeding to escape at any time.

Hopefully that made sense, but I think the doctor probably said it was normal because it is a common side effect of the Paraguard. Even if you never experienced it the last time you had it in, having a baby changes things - your uterus might be positioned a little differently now, your cervix too - which can affect the placement of the IUD and mean you experience side effects you didn't experience before you had your baby.

That's a common side effect too. It's not exactly healthy because of the amount of iron you can lose from bleeding so much, but it is normal for the IUD to do that to some women.

I really hope that this stops soon for you. That would be very frustrating. You may have to do something different. Like what was already said. Your uteris and cervix may be in a slightly different spot and so not allowing you had develop a sound plug to keep everything in at times. It has only been 23, so hopefullly and I mean hopefully it will stop soon and wont go more than a month!!
