About a month ago my husband said he wanted me to have my IUD removed to try for another baby. I called around and it is around $500 for removal. So he says why don;t I take it out myself. Uh no, for one the strings are so short I can barely feel them with my fingertip and I don't want to risk tearing my uterus.
While we were having sex, he said he felt something poke him, I figured it was the strings because they can be prickly, I have felt them poke me. I didnt think much about it until I started cramping so I went to check the strings because I thought it was coming out, the strings were longer than they should have been, almost to the opening. I freaked out thinking Oh it came out so I tugged a little on the strings expecting it to just fall out, it didn't.
So I checked my cervix and the stem is sticking out of my uterus, I am freaking out. When I removed my hand I was bleeding, not too bad but enough to where I needed a pad. My hubby keeps saying for me to go ahead and pull it out but I'm afraid to, I read from 2 different sites that 1. they have to use the same tool used to insert it in order to remove it to fold down the T wings and slide it out and the other 2. that the T folds up as it is pulled out, thus not requiring the first tool.
I have no insurance, my aunt, a nurse told me that even if I go to the ER they may not remove it if I am not in any immediate danger. I am terrified this thing will poke a hole through me. I am not hurting but am still spotting. Has anyone taken theirs out?? Was it easy? Am I overreacting?
Anyone know who can remove this, I have no insurance and I am terrified!!

Nurse and NFP Instructor popping in...
DO NOT try to remove it yourself!!!! You could perforate your uterus or your cervix, or both!!! DO NOT DO IT! It already sounds like it might have moved into an awkward position and you need to get things checked out! Please go to the ER!
If the IUD has moved into a dangerous position, they will most certainly remove it for you at the ER. If it's still in a good position and you're not in immediate danger, then they may leave it in.

My aunt told me that being since the stem is out of my uterus that they cannot put it back in because of the risk of infection.

Oh I didn't realize the stem was already out - sorry I missed that part when I was reading your post. Well that's kind of good news for you then - they should take it out for you in the ER for sure then!

Yes, go, now. The wings do fold up, when it is inserted and when it is removed, BUT like Shawna said it could be in a dangerous poistion. DO NOT REMOVE IT YOURSELF.

Last night I went to the bathroom and the strings were literally hanging out by an inch or so. So I checked again and I could feel the entire stem, it felt bigger than it actually was though, I felt a little further and turns out it was completely out of my cervix. Scary but relieved.....to a point. I started feeling sick a few hours later but no bleeding or anything. When I woke up this morning I felt better than I had in a lng while. Im still going to see someone though.

Please call your dr. If you felt sick then you could have an infection. I'm glad to hear you are feeling better but your dr needs to know about it
I had the mirena and I had it taken out by my dr, they did have to use somethign to get it out with, and it didnt hurt much at all, but i can not imagine just pulling it out.

OMG!! You poor thing!! Aghhh I cannot imagine what that would feel like. PLEEEEAAAASSSEEE let the doctors remove this, not having insurance is not an excuse. You could have an infection and you could permanently damage something by taking it out yourself. Let us all know how you are doing!! Def go now to the ER!!!

Planned parenthood will do it too. They have sliding scale if you do not have insurance.
