OOOOhhhh ok so have you ever had antibiotics cause your birthcontrol to be non or less effective?

If so what antibiotics where you taking? And what type of bc where you taking or on?


Just something that I was thinking about, since last week I had to take antibiotics for a really bad strep throat! I personally have not had anything happen, but then again I am still taking my bc pills and havent stopped yet for my AF...lol. I think Im fine though. I know that my mom was told to be carefull about an antibiotic she was taking when I was younger that it could make her bc pills less effective, unfortunately I can't remember what it was and niether can she. Anyways, just thought I would ask and see what all you ladies thought!

Yes antibiotics can decrease the effectiveness of birth control pills (I'm not sure about other forms of hormonal bc). It's best to use a back up form of protection while taking antibiotics.

What does the insert say that came with your BCP prescription? That will give the details that pertain to your specific medication.

I wasn't asking cause I was worried I was just curios if anyone had any stories or info about it. I was too sick while I was taking the antibiotic and then I waited a while after I got better before my bf and I did anything..I didn't want to make him sick! lol.
