I just started birth control about a week and a half ago and was just wondering if my doctors advice on having to use condoms for the first month is really necessary. Only because when i was 15 and was on the pill my doctor never told me that and I had unprotected with a boyfriend at the time almost right away and was with him for 4 months and never got pregnant. But now this doctor tells me it won't be fully effective until i go through the first pack.

Was I maybe just lucky the first time? And how likely is it to get pregnant while on the pill? I take it at the same time everyday and don't forget but even if i take it correctly is there still a huge chance? Has anyone here ever got pregnant while on the pill or known anyone who has?

You should be using back up for the first week. Im sure you will be fine after that. Thats what my doctor told me. So basically that first week BE CAREFUL and use back up and after you have your period and start up a new packet be careful again. You should be fine though as long as you are taking them everyday pretty much at the same time it is 99.9% effective!
