But I'm confused. Care to enlighten me? You have a Pro Life blinkie in your sig. You do know that the Mirena has the potential to work as an abortifacient right? You can still ovulate and conceive with the Mirena, but it will make sure the embryo cannot implant in your uterus and cause the baby to miscarry with your period.
depends on what your personal opinion of miscarry is.
The MEDICAL (not religious or personal) definition of miscarriage, is when the embryo implants in the uterus and then there is issue, wheather chemical pregnancy, or a later miscarriage. A pregnancy is not considered a pregnancy, medically, unless your HcG is above 5, if an embryo never implants, then you are never pregnant, in medical terms, and thus never have a miscarriage or abortion. This is the medical definition, you are working off of your MORAL or RELIGIOUS interpretation of what you believe is a pregnancy. Many women have fertilized eggs that never implant, not all embryos implant, whether due to birth control or bum luck while TTC. Religioiusly or morally you may think the Mirena is an "abortifacient" but from a medical perspective, it is not, because you were technically. never pregnant to begin with.
I don't recall discussing religion in this conversation.
That medical definition of "pregnancy" only changed in recent decades and only reflects a phase of physiological development (like puberty) - it's not an all-encompassing definition to determine the origins of human life.
Genetically and biologically speaking, a brand new set of DNA is created at the moment of conception. This is not the beginning of
pregnancy, no. Whether this is a human life or not is clearly up for debate and I'm not going to try to persuade you one way or the other. I understand that not everyone believes it begins at the moment of conception and will make their choices accordingly.
Those who are Pro Life usually have personal values about human life rooted in the sciences of biology and genetics. (The idea that when two separate gametes join together, it creates a new zygote - a genetic original. The only things that change after that point are location (fallopian tube to uterus to birth canal to hospital room to car to house to crib) and phase of development (zygote to embryo to fetus to infant to child to teenager to adult to senior). Genetically speaking. Pro Lifers define
abortifacient as anything that interrupts the process of development after conception (espousing the genetic definition of the beginning of life) and
contraceptive as anything that prevents conception in the first place. They also discriminate between losses which happen naturally and unintentionally and those which are brought about intentionally, with drugs, devices, or surgical means.
I was genuinely curious about the ProLife blinkie. Not everyone knows how the Mirena works. You may disagree about whether that constitutes a loss of human life or not, that is your freedom and your choice. Everyone else also has the same freedom to be fully informed so they can make their choices within the parameters of their personal values too.
