Do you stop him/her? Or let them be? Is there a cut off point where you say enough is enough? If so, what works?

Carson just spiiiins until he can't spin no more!! Our whole house is tile, and I'm just waiting for the day he falls flat on his head! wacko.gif

After about ten min.. I start to get annoyed and worried for his safety, so, I tell him 'ok buddy, noo more!' HAHA of course, that does absolutely nothing.. he etiher doesn't hear me... pretends he doesn't hear me.. or starts screaming and hitting at me confused.gif

TIA!! grin.gif

Alexader has just started doing this because he just got his balance together grin.gif. He doesn't do it too long, and sometimes we try to stop him but it isn't very easy. I guess if he were doing it a long time I would try harder to stop him. We do have carpet though. Hope Carson doesn't get hurt!

Gus doesn't spin, not on his feet anyways. We have one of theose old Sit'n'Spin toys (not the new crappy musical with lights ones) - if you can find one of the older kind at a yard sale I totally recommend them. He gets the spinning sensation, plus the cranking the handle to get himself spinning is something else he likes, he enjoys deep pressure and heavy lifting, really feeling his muscles work, so this toy is great for that.

How about some of those thin foam mats, you know the puzzle piece kind? You could let him spin, but redirect him to the mats, tell him he can spin but he has to spin on the mats... then he would have a soft landing if he got dizzy.

I wish there was one big enough for my 9 yr old. She needs the heavy work and the spinning. Any ideas for something similar with the heavy work incorporated??

Kainan does the spinning once in a while too. If it goes on for more than a couple minutes I usually will go to him, pick him up and spin him around once or twice and redirect his activity...for example: I'll pick him up, spin him once around in my arms and say, Kainan you're silly and then I'll say something like "Do you want to play blocks with Mommy?" and we walk to the playroom to find his blocks. Or sometimes, I'll ask him to dance with me and we do a different kind of movement.
Our OT suggested flipping him upside down because that can be calming too.

Not spinning but heavy work - a rowing machine or exercise bike, you can increase the force needed.
