Full Version: Recovery question

Hi girls. It'll be three weeks tomorrow that I had my first c-section. I was walking around and bathing by day two (one of the most difficult tasks of my life ), walking up and down steps by day 4, driving my day 6, and actively doing things (walking long distances, light laundry, bathing my kids by week one. Well, you get the picture. For the last week, Ive felt ok. Of course Im not ready to run a marathon, or even take a short trip to the mall, but I find that Ive been ok considering having this surgery. But just yesterday, it has felt as if my body has been shutting down. I feel like Im regressing a bit. My walk is slower, I have pains on the sides of my lower back, my scar hurts (to the point that I have to walk with a limp), on the left hand side, I dont know, Im just not feeling comfortable. I feel like I did on day 6 or 7.

Does this sound normal? Anyone experience something like this? If so, does this keep happening, this back and forth thing- one day Im good, the next day no? Perhaps Ive overworked my body, and Im paying for it now?

Note, I wasnt able to have the recovery that I should've had or wouldve wanted, because my husband is a butthead, and wasnt the best help (he was the best with helping with my girls though). Also, I was supposed to see my OB/GYN today, but I had to reschedule my appt for next week, because my baby just got home from NICU yesterday, and being that he cant go out much and is on an apnea monitor I cant leave him with just anyone. (Having the baby home with these body aches is all bittersweet )

It does sound to me like you've just been overdoing it. Unless you have swelling, redness, oozing, a fever or your incision is opening then I would say just do your best to put your feet up and rest. Get the "butthead" lol to help out more until you are all healed wink.gif

ditto.gif As I think I said before in our DDC, you've been really overdoing it! I know it's difficult because you are a hardworking mommy and you are used to keeping your home nice and doing it all, but honestly Mike needs to step it up! Don't do it all, and just let him deal with it. If you don't do it, he comes home and dinner's not started, or he has no more clean socks, I guarantee he'll start to get the picture and do it or starve and wear dirty socks LOL! It's not the end of the world. He can call for pizza and put in a load of laundry. Focus on the important things. I guarantee a clean house, no dirty laundry, and homemade meals aren't the important things.

I have to agree with the other ladies here. It sounds like you are overdoing it. You are recovering from a major surgery! you need to rest as much as possible. It's time for you to get your hubby to help out more!

Good luck :)

I will tell you that I was adamantly instructed before my c/s to stay in bed unless the house was on fire for ONE WEEK and to do NO STAIRS for TWO WEEKS, MINIMUM. Sorry for all the caps, but the advice was very strongly worded at the time wink.gif I pushed a little too, and sang a concert (albeit on a stool) 10 days post-op, but I did do the bed rest thing for a week, so it was not too bad. Even so, I needed 2 days to recover.
I have to say I agree with PPS, you can choose to overdo, but your recovery will go much slower. Please get some rest! HUGS

My daughter went to the NICU as well and I overdid it everyday to the point my feet were so swollen my SOCKS wouldnt fit my feet. I had the nurses in the NICU tell me literally to go and sit down, lay down, take a nap, do whatever but relax. It does sound like to me you are overdoing it. You had major surgery your body needs its time to heal. Im 3 months PP and I STILL get sharp twinges in my incision from time to time. Partially because Im not really numb anymore. So take it easy girl you need to be healthy for your baby! wink.gif
