I had a bad experience with it
I had the mirena IUD for 4 months. I was not on my period when it got put in. I bled heavy for a week, I spotted for over a month straight then off and on after that. I was told feeling dizzy the same day it gets inserted is normal. But I felt dizzy the whole time though. I had horrible cramps that almost made me cry, migraines, and back pain
I got the IUD out cause i was in so much pain. That was almost a month ago and I feel so much better now.

At first the IUD is uncomfortable. I had cramping for about a day and then spotting for about 3 mths. Now it seems to be fine. I have yet to get a/f, but I am BFing still. Talk to your doc about your options, every BC effects everybody differently. Talk about your past and what you feel is best.

I experienced nausea, cramping, and dizziness for about 2-3 hours after having it inserted, but it was easily treated with ibuprofen. I spotted for a couple days afterwards. Once I got my cycle back, af was heavier for a few months, but painless. I have the Paragard, which is non-hormonal.

I have the mirena. I bled very heavily for about a week every month for the first 4 months. I also had lots of cramping. It also gave me very bad pregnancy symptoms. I then did conceive with it in place. All in all the first 6 months with it were HORRIBLE. Now though, I'm very happy with it. I don't have periods and no cramps, no spotting. AND NO MORE PREGNANCIES! YAY!

I have the Paragard and I love it!!
I think that b/c reacts differently for everyone. If you know that it's going to be atleast a few more years than the IUD might be a good option for you.
I have the websites for both IUD's in the helpful websites sticky.

I had a bad experience with the paraguard IUD. I really liked the idea of no hormones, and not having to worry about bc for years, since we won't be having anymore kids for at least 5 years. But I was miserable from the day I got it. The day I had it inserted I had horrible cramps, dizziness, and nausea. I actually had to call my boyfriend to come home because I was in so much pain. I ended up taking vicodin for the cramps, I also had a lot of pressure on my cervix, back pain, and heavy bleeding. I was told most women feel fine after, just crampy, but that might just be the way my body is reacting. So I just kept taking ibuprofen and waiting for my body to adjust. But the pain and bleeding never went away, either did the pressure on my cervix. After 3 weeks I had it removed and have felt fine since.
I'd say make sure you do all your research about it. Although, you don't know how you will react until you get it. I know plenty of women who have IUD's, and had some side effects at first, but now love it. For me, I was too worried about affects on my fertility, especially since I was bleeding so much and in so much pain all the time. It was almost like I felt it in me all the time, and that made me really uncomfortable.

I had the Mirena inserted at my 6 week pp checkup. It ended up perforating my uterus and I had to have surgery to remove it. I am guessing that 6 weeks pp is just too early for an IUD to be inserted, I think your uterus may still be shrinking/adjusting. I did not have another inserted and probably won't but I'm also not against it, just one of the unlucky ones!!
The inserting didn't hurt just felt like a bad cramp. After that I had some minor bleeding and cramping. It wasn't until a few days later that I starting getting the real pain and I believe that's when it went through.
Hope that helps!! Good luck.
