I just had a baby and am looking for new BC. I want to try the Paragard IUD because it doesn't have hormones. I have a few questions about it first.

1. How much did you ladies pay to have it put in?

2. Does it hurt to have it put in?

3. Is it a really effective method of BC?

Thanks ladies! Feel free to add whatever else you like.

1. How much did you ladies pay to have it put in? My insurance paid $564. I did have to file a grievance to get them to cover it tho (HMO)

2. Does it hurt to have it put in? I felt a pinch similar to a pap smear. Afterwards I experienced dizziness, nausea, and cramping, but I took an Ibuprofen and the symptoms went away and didn't return.

3. Is it a really effective method of BC? It's as effective as female sterilization

It did cause me to spot for about 3-4 days after insertion and when my cycle returned (I was bfing) the bleeding was quite a bit heavier for the first 3 months or so. I didn't have cramping any worse than when I was off hormonal birth control.

Thank you for answering my questions.

Wow! That's a lot of money! Did you have to pay anything out of pocket?

Just the $10 co-pay.
