I had my third baby in Feb. Bled for 5-6 weeks postpartum. At my postpartum visit, my doc prescribed bcp. I wanted ot wait until I had my first real period before starting them. I haven't taken bcp for 11 years. I dealt with infertility for years with my 1st and 2nd kids. But, the third one came easy so I figure I need to get on some kind of birth control. At approximately 7 weeks, I had VERY light spotting for 1-2 days. Don't know if that was trying to be a regular period or what. Nothing else for about a month. At 11 1/2 weeks postpartum, I got my period. It was a Sunday and I started my pills that day. I haven't stopped bleeding since. I don't know if it's the pills or something else since this was really my first period after delivery anyway. I called but my doc was out. The doc on-call said it was normal to have persistent bleeding for awhile when starting bcp after delivery. I've never heard that. They said to call back if it got worse or didn't stop in a few more weeks. I was planning to take the pills without a break for 2-3 months to avoid a period (like Seasonale). My doc said it was okay. Now I don't know. I'm sick of bleeding. Anyone else had this happen?

Irregular bleeding/spotting is a common side effect of hormonal contraceptives. You will probably see it mentioned on the insert you got with the prescription.

I would say that your body is getting adjusted to the extra hormones. I would give it a few months to see if it gets better before you try something different.
