I got the Copper IUD when i gave birth to my daughter and i had it for 8 years, it was great, except my periods lasted like almost 2 weeks and were very very heavy, but...after 8 years of having it i had scar tissue form around the iud and it had to be taken out and was very very painful and i got very ill, so i then got pregnant afterwards and now i am 15 weeks preggo.

I have the copper IUD. I've only had it for almost 2 weeks now. I was on my period when I had it put in and it didn't make it any heavier. I guess I'll see how my next one goes. I just found out a friend of mine has had one for 5 years and loves it. She said that her periods actually got lighter and most times she only has one every other month. She said she's sure she has the copper one because she went to a planned parenthood and they only do copper at that one. After a lot of research on which one to get, I decided on the copper because I didn't want to take the risk of the possible side effects from the mirena. Not everyone has a horrible experience with it, but I already deal with depression and I'm trying to lose weight. Good luck!

I have the copper one as well. I've had it for about 14 months and I like having it. At first my AF was heavy but not it's lightened up and I have no problems with it!!

I had my copper IUD for a little over a year and loved it! The only issue that I had was that dh could feel the strings.
