I had a tubal ligation 18 months ago and have had no problems other than heavier periods. My periods have been on time every month since the tubal until this month. It's over 2 weeks late. I took a hpt and after about 5 minutes it came back positive. I am freaking out. I can't call the ob/gyn that did the surgery because it's after hours and with the weekend I won't be able to call her until monday. What should I do? Is it serious enough to go to the hospital or should I wait, take another hpt next week and then call the doc?

Holy cow ! I understand why you would be freaking out. I would be calling the dr anyway weekend or not.

Pregnancy after tubal ligation carries a much higher risk of ectopic pregnancy, so I would get in touch with your doctor ASAP so they can make sure baby is in the uterus!

I agree with Shawna. You need to talk with your dr. My step mom had a tubal ligation and she got pregnant after having her tubes tied for over 15 years. She ended up having a tubal pregnancy and her tube ruptured. Not something to mess around with.

I have an appointment with my midwife tomorrow at 10:30. When I called to make the appointment, I explained the situation and the receptionist said Oh you don't sound very happy about it! LOL like yeah, I got my tubes tied for a reason, of course I'm not happy about it...

Anyway, I guess I'll find out tomorrow. Thanks for all the replies :)

hi, I see that it has been over a year since you posted this, but I was wondering how it turned out...I too had a tubal ligation 5 years ago. I have had regular periods up until now. I have had all the pregnancy symptoms the past few weeks...I then spotted for 1 day...my period is now 3 days late...scared to take a pregnancy test since my husband definitley wants no more!!!
