I finally got an appt booked for Thursday to have my Paraguard IUD put in. I had my Mirena put in at the OBGYN office & had no problem with the insertion.. I had it taken out 6 months later to some weight gain side effects.

I called the OBGYN to book another appt to have the Paraguard inserted & they said they were booked & to call Family Medicine to have it put in at that office. The Family Medicine called me this morning & booked me an appt for this Thursday. The receptionist who booked the appt asked if I had a vaginal or c-section delivery. I told her c-section then she said the doctor who is going to put in the IUD (I've never had this doctor before) might call me back to prescribe me some pills that will dilate my cervix since I had a section!

I never had to take any pills for the Mirena when I went to the OBGYN so now I'm worried... I don't know if the pills will make me sick or will make the insertion hurt or what not.. has anyone else ever had to take dilating pills to have their IUD put in???? If so, do they hurt???? Now I'm scared!!!

I didn't have to take the pills to dilate my cervix for the IUD, but I did have to take some when I had a miscarriage in 2003. I had a hard time passing everything so they prescribed me some pills to help dialate. I don't remember what it was called. The only side effects I had were some cramping, but that could be due to the miscarriage itself. It was tolerable, but they did prescribe some pain meds too in case it hurt too much. I hope it all goes well for you.

I didn't have to take any pills to dilate my cervix before I got my IUD put in. My guess would be that because you had a c-section your cervix never dilated with labor, so it's not open. I've heard that once you've been through labor and delivery the natural way, your cervix never goes back to the way it was before.

Wonder why dr's don't do everything the same.

I had 2 planned sections and they never prescribed any pills for me ! That might explain why insertion was so painful. I thought it was anyway ! dry.gif
