I am using the shot right now and was just wondering what others who have used it had to say about it. And if you gained any weight while on it? Lose any hair? Etc...

Depo is one of the most aggressive contraceptive drugs out there (in fact, it's been blacklisted by the FDA for it's link to osteoporosis). I'll bump some old discussions here about it so you can see what some of the ladies here have experienced in the past.

I was on depo after DS#1, I gained some weight but I loved being on it... I am planning on going back on Depo now that DS #2 is here when I go for my 6 week check up. I will only be on the depo until he's done nursing then I am going back to my patch.

I had my first depo shot on November 16, 4 week PP, I needed something now and something that was safe while breastfeeding. I got it before reading all the horror stories. The stories had me scared for days but so far so good, then again I'm not sure how long before any side effects will hit. I stared my period a few days ago and only bled for one day. I plan to get an IUD when my 3 months is up.

I used it, but only got one shot. I gained about 10lbs in those 3 months and that was it for me. I also had a lot of spotting the entire time I was on it.

A little of a horror story... :S

I got the depo provera shot about 2 years ago and took the shot 4 times (1 year right?) Anywho, the whole time I was on it, I didnt gain any weight, if anything I lost some (what girl doesnt like that!) and at the end of my shot, my period was always on time, light and sooo managable.

It wasnt until I stoped taking the shot (for TCC) that things started to go wrong. I had 3 months where my period would show up every second week... 6 periods in 3 months!! Then poof, gone. I had 2 periods for the next year and never went back to being regular. Although now I am expexting an unexpected pregnancy, I still have no clue if Im back to normal. Also I wanted to add, me and my ex tried for that whole year to become pregnant, with NO sucess. Just horrible, mind games with the shot. Id never do it again.

BUT everyone is different!! Although I had no problems while ON the shot, gosh knows what it could have done to me health wise, or what I may face in the future once the baby is here....

I used Depo after I had my daughter. Just 3 shots. Loved not having any periods, or even spotting. Hated that it knocked my libido pretty much down to zero for the first few weeks after the shot, as well as making me cranky.

Took me 11 months after the last shot to start having even irregular periods. After finally conceiving my son, I decided to not go back on it after he was born. Just too annoying having the way I felt be so changed.

But no weight gain. That was nice.
