No, we are in this mess for a variety of reasons. Both Dems and 'Pubs wanted those policies. Banks got greedy, as did other people (including politicians). Then we had a nonsensical war that put us way into debt. So it's not just one thing. And it's not just the Dems.
And it's more than just the economy. People are concerned about issues as well. And especially this year. There will likely be 2 supreme court seats open. McCain will put conservatives.
