IMO rubber pants (gerber kind) are WAY to hot. I used 1 on my last child a few times when I ran out of diapers and he almost always ended up super red and HOT!! You can get some cheap PUL covers. As for prefolds they work great (depending on the brand). Washing is pretty easy just NO NOT use fabric softener.
