The popcorn stitch is another nice bumpy stitch. It starts out truly simple; Make anumber of double crochet (or taller) stitches into the same stitch. It's in closing it off that things really start to pop. Popcorn stitches are so big and assertive that they're usually used sparingly on a ground of single or double crochets. So c'mon, let's try one already.
Make 5 complete double crochet stitches into the next stitch. Now pull the lopp you have on your hook up a bit so that it is longer than usual, and remove your hook from the loop, don't be scared it's only for a moment. Insert your hook into the top of the first of the double crochet stitches (the way you would if you were going to make a stitch in there) and grab that loose loop with the hook. Now just pull the loop through, gathering all 5 of the double crochet stitches into a nice little bump. Make a chain stitch to hold your popcorn together and hold the butter.
