On Monday, July 27th, I went to the dr. for all over itching with no rash. I was diagnosed as having Obstetric Cholestasis (OC), a specific liver condition in which the normal flow of bile is impaired in a woman's body resulting in itching that can vary in severity and type. The only treatment was to deliver the baby.
I had an amniocentisis done which determined that his lungs were developed so a c-section was scheduled for July 28th at 11:00 am. OC poses several risks that are of great concern. It is associated with an increased risk for infant stillbirth (intrauterine death of baby), premature labor, fetal distress, and hemorrhaging in both mother and child.
I went into the hospital at 9:00 am on July 28th and Bryce was born at 11:20 am. Imagine everyone's shock when he weighed in at 9 lbs. and 11 oz., almost 21 inches long. The doctor was new to the practice (been there for about a year and I had never seen her) and said that this was the biggest baby she had delivered.
He is well loved by his family. I had my tubes tied because OC will occur in following pregnancies and often comes earlier and earlier. It was a risk I wasn't willing to take or experience. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.
