yes, shoes would also be another one to get confused with. It's hard if you want to stick with ASL because there are so many signs that are similar, and the child might adapt them the same way. I think though that it is easier for caregivers to tell what they are saying, even if it is something they say in the same way. Just like parents can usually tell what their kids are saying verbally even when no one else can
I think fingertips together is the most common way, at least on this board
I've seen a lot of people do an index finger to an open palm, but I think in ASL that is actually medicine or something like that, so I didn't want to do it that way.
