Hi everyone! I have been reading some of these posts and I am amazed by your children! Wow! Anyway, my question is in regards to my DD, now 2 and 1/2. She has always been pretty advanced reaching many of her milestones early. I was concerned at 6 mo because she seemed not to babble as much as my DS did, but by 9 mo. she was actually using words to communicate (saying words for the things she wanted etc) She was this tiny little baby with NO hair who would say hi to people in the grocery store and people would freak out. Anyway, she continued to excel in language speaking in sentences prior to 18 mo. and always with perfect diction (none of those cute baby words) At 16 mo. she corrected a music teacher's pronunciation of her grandmother's name. Now she can recognize every letter of the alphabet and tell you it's sound. She learned this without me teaching her or even talking about letters. One day I found her at my dishwasher pointing to the letters on it (for the different cycles and things) and just saying them out loud. If you ask her how to spell her name and her brother's she can. I don't know if she is just into letters or if this is a sign she is advanced.
She can also draw very well for her age (or at least I think so) she was drawing one day and I said "draw daddy" and then walked away. When I came back she had drawn a face with eyes, a nose, a mouth, ears, hair, and feet.
She doesn't recognize any #'s, but she can count items using 1 to 1 corespondence up to 10. Would she have to be advanced in all areas to be considered gifted? Do you think she just has unusual interests or would you consider this advanced. Please be honest (I won't be offended). I just want to know if this is something I should look into or if I should just let it go and see what happens. I just don't want to short change her.
